The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I like that idea. I don’t know which of my main characters I’d kill off. I will off two minor but endearing characters, however.

“I think I’d kill her” means “I’d discover a deep, abiding hatred for this person on day four and have a miserable month”.

Oh. Or you could just off her. Maybe the creepy boy who works in the Pharmacy can kill her, or the old bitty who occupies the stool in front of the women’s fitting room/cubicle (they always have a shifty look about them, don’t they??). Then it could be a mystery over who she really was - the myspace profile or the disaffected, runaway daughter of a kajillionaire.

It could be one of those mysteries that start with us getting to know the victim and the circumstances surrounding her death...and the rest of the month you could right about the detective work...

I kin rite reel gud.

The crazy thing is that, after reading so many Scots newspapers and forums, that sentence makes perfect sense to me.

I will probably go with fantasy or science fiction again though... those always work better than mysteries. Or fantasy mysteries.

My 04 novel still calls to me. 04 and 03 are the only ones that do that (well, last year’s, but that’s because it’s The Story, the one that is now on it’s 8th year of haunting me). A talk with my engineer husband gave me some ideas for a “scientific” explanation for a place halfway between our world and Faeryland where magic and science both sort of work... so all I need is a story.

But the plot, that’s hard. I am thinking of finding random plot ideas and tying them together somehow. Or downloading all of ABBA’s work and using that instead of a plot.

I've had a: 1) erased the wrong spreadsheet and lost 1 weeks' worth of work 2) was given a report back to revise (hugh sections! *grumble*) 3) have a company credit card bill due that isn't going to get paid on time because mgmt can't be bothered to sign paperwork in a timely fashion... which will impact my credit 4) sciatica is *killing* me 5) need answers from five people who aren't in the office today kinda day.

I was handed a 55 page white paper, that I didn't write, at 1600... was told I havetuh reformat (and its totally, TOTALLY jacked), verify cost data, generate a cover page that is tedious at best... oh... and I havetuh have it done by noon tuhmorruh... or it'll cost us millions... no pressure...

You know, once the sun went down, this connection isn't too bad. It still says zero signal strength, but it's become more reliable. I wonder who my anonymous benefactor is?

On the bright side, I recovered the spreadsheet from the system back-up (yaaay!) and got to kick some fanny in a telecon yesterday. The reports still need doing, tho. One has to be done tomorrow because I'm briefing our executive on it. That should be fun, heh.

and I'm giving blood today - through the armed services blood service thingy, so that's good.

Seperate the multiple chapters in one file with section breaks:

Insert ---> Break

I usually do section breaks 'starting next page' because of the markups we have to do in the headers and footers. Haven't played around with page numbers like that. I use the Help menu a lot. :(
