Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Well, I wasn’t ticked before, but I can be at a moment’s notice ;~)
Good afternoon :~D
It’s just not a good way to feel when I’m about to see family. :-\
And feeling like impending doom is about to sweep down...isn’t a great travel mood.
Ah well.
Erm...and I keep reading that as “ticketed”.
*twitch* *flinch*
((Rosie))
Maybe not, but it was about the only way to get Frodo out the door.
Well...yeah...but he didn’t exactly have a nice relaxing vacation, now did he?
Ruh-roh...
Thanks...I think I just need chocolate or sumpin. ;-)
I'm sketching out a possible third subplot. I don't know if it will really serve the story, but it's worth investigating; it might make the other bits better.
Heh...if you come up with some extra subplots that end up orphaned, toss a few my way. I have no ideas.
Half the time I end up taking stuff from dreams, but considering last night I dreamed I was writing a kid’s story about a dog that lived in a Chinese restaurant...I don’t hold out much hope...
Heh. At least you didn’t have a tryptophan attack after lunch.
For everyone else, I may be a bit hard to find for the next 24 hours. I'm genuinley sneak freeping right now by using some neighbor's unsecured wireless.
The phone company knocked out my connection while working on something two doors down. I called, and they will repair the damage they did (if the decide it's their fault) by Friday. They ignored my suggestion that one of their own pole climbers two doors down took out my connection.
Right now I have next to zero signal strength, but it was enough to check email, and stop by here.
No plots here either. On the other hand I do have a clean bathroom and half the anime organized.
Main story line, POV of MC Claire, American girls Claire and Marci* spend the summer with their Scottish college friend in Scotland. They navigate the turmoil of a series of catastrophic terrorist attacks together. As events progress, they assemble a passable guerilla force to secure their region and inspire others throughout the UK to do the same.
Subplot 1, a series of extremely omniscient vignettes following various terrorists, laying out generic motivations and illustrating the complexity of the attack plans.
Subplot 2, POV of a Labour MP, illustrating the political events leading to the attacks. Basically a treatise on the perils of PC-ism and "tolerance".
Subplot 3, POV of a junior data analyst in MI-5, who has a hunch about the magnitude of the attacks but doesn't have enough political clout to get anyone to do anything about it. I think he's going to be instrumental in helping the "insurgents".
I might merge Subplot 1 and 2. Still working on it.
* working character names.
Now that IS a good thing!!
I spent half the afternoon in the paint store, getting the paints for the kitchen cabinets and walls, the den, dining room and living room walls, and the clear polycrylic for the interior of the cabinets. Gots lots of painting to do!
Kewl.
Heh...I have a tendency to decide fifty pages in that I don’t care for one of the characters’ names. Thank goodness for search and replace!
There some fun irony in some “colonists” coming back over to the Home Islands and helping to form up a good old fashioned militia.
Not sure how Lafayette figures into it this time ‘round, tho... :-)
I’m going to go a little deeper than that and look at the parallel experiences of the Highlanders and the American Indians (MC Claire is going to have Cherokee roots) - namely being forcibly “resettled”. Both groups have struggled to adjust culturally and economically and have a tendancy to blame their poverty and ills on the government. So I’m going to try to illustrate the importance of using the past as a source of strength and not being limited by it.
I am having some interesting ideas... no clue where to go with them. One about a drop-out girl who works at Wal-mart and fakes her life on mySpace only to have it start coming true. But I think I’d kill her.
