There you go, that's one of the best reasons of all!
I hope Worcester will have its roads cleared by tomorrow afternoon. Gotta take Clare to the Oral Surgeon. She has a wisdom tooth that needs cutting out. Tomorrow is just the consult; she'll have to wait for March or so for the surgery. We'll make an appointment to have that done when she comes home for Spring Break, which it turns out, is over the Easter weekend and the following week.
Just think if I take two years off...

We had 8 inches Saturday night. Almost 24 hours later, and not much has been done even on the main roads. I think the cities are waiting until early Monday morning to start, and avoid Sunday OT rates.
I'm also the only person on the help desk tonight, and it was 4WD all the way, on city streets. The only cars out are either 4WD, or idiots in little cars. And half the 4WD drivers are idiots, too. I saw one guy zooming around from lane to lane like he was on a race track.
The snow storm hit you up there too. Well, you’ve got the rig for getting around. Dodging the lamebrains is always the hard part.
I have yet another one, though I s'pose I shouldn't admit that. I bid the opening bid and no one else did. Hey, it rhymes. Anyway, I basically got it for the price of shipping, which wasn't bad. The "new" typewriter is a Smith Corona Sterling from the early 50s. It wasn't functioning, despite what the seller said. Too gummed up for most of the typebars even to move, and the ribbon wasn't advancing, either. I spent most evenings this week de-mucking it with various potions and a lot of elbow grease. The ribbon advance problem turned out to be just that one of the spools was bent. It works just lovely now - I wrote five or six pages on it today.
Not a pretty thing, though, really. It's exactly like this one.

Idiots, indeed. They seem to have the idea that 4WD means they can do whatever they want behind the wheel, and that they'll still have full control. They forget that 4WD don't mean diddly-squat when they hit a patch of ice. They'll be sliding just the same as the little old lady they blew by down the street.
That's not ugly, that's cutting-edge early 1950s industrial design.
IBM (always the company nickname, not officially changed until 1954) commissioned the designer Raymond Loewy (who also did the Coke bottle) to design their new generation of unit-record gear. This was BC, before computers, when everything was done in punched cards. Here's his design for the 026 key punch. I used one of these until 1969.
Everything was available in one color, gray. Hence the term "gray iron", which referred to a large herd of these beasts.
And if it was good enough for people to wear suits and dresses to run the equipment for the IBM publicity photo, the customer made sure his people dressed accordingly. You might never know when a publicity shot would be needed.
Management demanded lab coats when running the early computers, because that's what they saw in the movies and news clips. That also gave them the opportunity to put the company name or logo on your back.
IBM went to color with the 1400 and 7000 series, their first solid-state computers. "Big iron gray" was still available, but the most popular was the "IBM Big Blue". "Old Rose" was a distant second, followed by "Cloud White", and the rare-but-ghastly yellow (official name unknown). With the black end panels on all these colors, the yellow model (I only saw one or two computer rooms with that color) certainly kept everyone awake on the midnight shift.
