The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Nnngh... We have a ginormous old oak tree in the front lawn, it has dead branches that are just waiting to take out a car. I think the ones over the house are all alive though, which is good.

But I love our tree.

That’s the benefit of having a real house, instead of a cardboard one... Even still, we’d have pictures :~)

We’re not flooding so far. The flooding was to our south.

Still got lots of rain though...Steve got some overtime doing samples. The temp at least has been fantastic, we enjoyed working in the shop on the Beetle.

Believe me, he owes me.

I let him drive the truck to Blacksburg yesterday for the Virginia Tech memorial dedication (and to see thegirlfriend). He was ~supposed~ to leave there at 6, it was closer to nine so I was up until after midnight waiting for him.

Then he didn’t know where his first class was. There are two campus locations. So I had to print his schedule, and a map and directions to the bookstore.

And I had to wash his work uniform. That he could do, but I knew he’d never get up in time.

On my way in, I was wondering if my dad ever really had a drinking problem before my brother and I were teenagers.

According to Jr’s investigation, there’s no damage in the attic. But if we hadn’t had the cable holding up that branch we would have had a new sky light.

So, there’s that.

Yeah, but it's getting to be colder water. I'm thinking of getting one of these and a cheap pair of rain pants. And maybe some rubber shoes of some sort.

Didn't rain on the way in, though. Lotsa muddy water, but that's why I'm getting fenders next week.

It’s good that you spent that money, then! For what that’s worth... :-\

Glad it wasn’t any worse, Corin.

So I guess that money was well spent after all!

It looks like we'll be driving down your way this evening. I think I have your cell phone#, but would you Freepmail it to me yut in case? My brother was talking about his flight home last night, and SirKit realized that with all the travel to Boston, then waiting for the plane, then the layover in Newark, he'd have about 8 hours travel time. We figured we could get him down there in less than that, and we have some things we need to pick up at various places along the way for the remodel, so SirKit decided we'd drive my brother back to BWI to get his car. I don't know when we'd be coming through Richmond, on our way to Virginia Beach, but I at least wanted to holler at you when we did! We might try to stop and see SirKit's nephew, who lives in Glen Allen.

Anyway, we'll be heading out in a couple of hours, so I wanted to give you a heads up.

From today's Military Motivator, some eager young Marines. I see most of them have ACOGs on their rifles, so we as taxpayers are treating them right.

If you look at the larger version, you can see the middle kneeling Marine has a suppressor on his rifle. Nothing says "love" to a grunt than quality weapons and knives.

~sigh~

I’ve just inherited a tank of “sea monkeys.” Sister Mary Hamburner’s stepson forgot to take them back to school. So he offered them to Luke.
