FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

I can’t believe it’s gotten that cold there already, I thought you lived in the dessert:)

I’ve gotten 1/2 was thru 1 book:),,but it is a very very thick book, and it’s not just a novel type book, it’s a 101 lesson book about the bible, that I have wanted to read for awhile.

I sure hope Bob recovers quick, and the surgery is a success.

Good Morning.

Still very hot here and suppose to be in the mid to hihg 80's for the next couple of days. Normally, we would have had frost and been a lot colder. My pepper plants are still growing.

You all have a nice weekend!

Last day of garage sale...yay!

I figure they won’t listen right now, they might when they’ve tried everything else that their own little brains thought up:)

And heaven help the horse until they do!

WEll, IMO, it’s more heaven help the person that has to deal with the horse after these kids have spoiled them with kindness and inconsistency:)

Sometimes it sounds to me these kids go out and try the advise they have been given ONE TIME....then try something else, then something else, etc. IMO, that’s worse then just staying with one technique even if it the wrong one:)

“FREEAING??!! My gosh, it’s still in the mid 80’s here. We haven’t even had any Fall weather yet, much less Winter.”

We haven’t had a drop of rain in weeks and it’s been in the mid 90’s every day. Doesn’t feel much like Halloween weather around here but I do have all my decorations up.

Back from the barn, I had a good ride, but there was just too much estrogen there today. Everyone was b!tchy. Two of the women there tried to say that I let one of the horses step on the dog last Sunday, only they can't prove it. All they know is that a horse was on the front cross ties and they were out of the barn when the dog yelped. (One of the other people had accidentally stepped on her paw) They were both convinced that I had let a horse step on the dog, and didn't say anything. It's just really stupid. I'm mortified that they would actually think that I'm that dishonest.

I'm way too nice to people. I need to learn how to be more of a b!tch. Maybe then this crap wouldn't happen.

Doing ok. Did you have a bad day at the barn today? Those women are crazy. Even if a horse stepped on a dogs foot, so what? The dog shouldn’t have gotten so close to the horse.

Good to hear that you’re doing ok. I did have a bad day, which is unusual. But it’s ok. I practiced some “Retail therapy” at the tack shop and now I feel much better, if not a little poorer. ;-)

Boring stuff. A new black hunt jacket and a show shirt, as well as a square dressage pad. I had ordered some stuff from Dover, but I was paranoid that it wouldn't come in time for the show next Sunday, so that's why I bought the pad. I met the mailman on the way down the driveway when I came home. :-p Whoops.

What I do need though, is a couple of smaller all purpose pads and a smaller girth for when I ride Oliver. The girth that I want is this: Here Levi has one in a 52 with a girth extender, and I would probably need a 42 for Oliver. It's a synthetic girth, and I didn't think that I would like it, but it's thin and light and molds really wall. I need a couple of all purpose pads beacuse Oliver could wear Levi's saddle pads for blankets! The edges of the larger dressage pads come almost under his belly.

Anything new for horses is fun to get:)

I shut the shop down early today and came home. On the way home I decided it would be a good day to clean up my garden. I didn't like the monkey grass I had growing for a border along the sidewalk so I dug it all out, whew...I knew it was going to be a job, but it was a job. I didn't realize how invasive that stuff is. Anyway I got it all done.

It's a bit bare now, but looks more tidy. The monkey grass with that big clump of ornamental grass was just too much grass, but I like the clump:).

Your garden still looks nice :~) My flower pots are all but dead. Going to rip them up next week.

We got stalls clean, our winter porch tarpage up, and it’s good. Tomorrow I think we’ll get the horse trailer cleaned out and parked over at Rosie’s for winter.

Hello.

I’m considering taking a job near Hobbs, New Mexico and, perhaps, selling my place in SC and moving just across the state line to west Texas.

Anybody got experience with that area?

Good Morning.

Becky, your garden looks very pretty.

Garage sale is finish and I am exhausted. We did pretty good, making over $250, with mostly small items. There was a 62+ year old calender that is missing. I knew I should not put the really old stuff out. It seems everytime you have a garage sale, someone has to steal something. There is a place that has auctions every week, that you can bring your items. There and the Goodwill will be the next stop for all this junk. Except for the really nice cradle, dirt bike and the air compressor.

Thanks for the ping, Beaker.

Cowboyway, the area you are talking about is is very hot, dry and flat. Winters are cold. It is not in tornado alley. Seminole is the town across the border from Hobbs then the next larger town east of there is Lamesa. Do a google search of the area and see what you think. It’s pretty close to Midland, which is a wealthy oil town, but still ugly. Although I know some cowboys that love West Texas and wouldn’t live anywhere else. Have you ever seen an old Kevin Costner movie called Fandango? It was filmed in West Texas, watch it and you’ll get a good idea of what you’ll be getting into.

By the way, I’m in North Texas, between and north of Dallas and Fort Worth. The landscape here is much different from West Texas but still hot as blazes in summer.

Shopping is a cure for just about anything I think.

There must be a tremendous size difference between Levi and Oliver - I would love to see pictures of you standing beside each of them. I'll bet you really have to adjust mentally as you switch horses.
