FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Well, if you get to leave earlier than everyone else too, it’s not a bad schedule once you’re used to it.

There is that perk. I have a hard time getting up before it is light out, that’s all :-)

By yesterday I was climbing the walls down there and really getting on Mack’s nerves:)

How far is the drive you have to make?

65 miles. An hour's drive at non peak times, but in traffic it takes 2 hours.

I got there yesterday at 8:30, which was about when the thing was supposed to start, and then drove around for 40 minutes looking for a place to park that was within 6 blocks of the place. There was no available parking at any price. I started looking for places where I might just get a ticket, but not towed away ;~) I almost decided to just go back home!

...Barkley broke into the dog food bin today while he was left alone...his stomach is huge..

I know how he feels. I tend to do that when I'm home alone. ;o) Seriously though, I'm glad he's none the worse for it, other than some really nasty mouthwash. LOL! One would hope that'd make him think twice about doing it again, but you know it won't. So whatcha gonna do with the dog food bin to keep him from getting in it, now that he knows he can? I had a similar problem with a particularly talented 'coon and the cat food can at the barn. I finally had to lock the can up in a dog crate every night.

Well I’m glad your forced employment will soon be over. It’s been awfully quiet in here during the day this week with you and Hair both gone.

Man, I hate traffic like that, and the parking sounds ridiculous. I don’t blame you for wanting to go back home. So how far away did you end up parking?

Well, Barkley is none the worse for it so far... but he’s still very bloated this morning and no telling when all that is going to break loose. I’m trying to get him moving this morning so we can figure out what to do with him today.

Parking, I ended up pretty close. I just started defiantly driving up and down the street the conference was at waiting for someone to leave a space. I did not want to park a mile away. So I ended up in a two hour space right outside. I just had to roll it back a few feet when they chalked it about midday. ;~)

We’ve been keeping the dog food in a Rubbermade bin. I guess we’ll have to get a more secure one.

Oh, my, that looks horrific. I’m sorry. Glad you only have to do it for 2 days.

Well, it wasn’t forced...I volunteered, so I’m trying not to moan about it too much. I just don’t want our tanners going somewhere else to tan.

Good Morning.

Happy Friday!

Day 2 of garage sale. Yesterday was profitable. We shall see what today brings.

I am tired.

Pretty crafty! I'd've never thought of that.

Good news on the yard sale! Making a profit on the first day is pretty good. Are you gonna run it through Saturday or is today your last day?

Heh, he may have to give him an enema! That's pretty slick, you being conveniently away from home for all this. ;o)

Good morning.

Congrats on the profitable day. May today and tomorrow be equally profitable.

Snow here down to about 5500 ft, hopefully my snow tires will be put on today.

Hair, it seems like they should let you telacommute to the conference :) Dressing up and dealing with traffic and parking is not fun.

Becky, how many books have you had a chance to read, keeping an eye on tanning beds? I keep thinking about how warm that sounds - I've been freezing for a week. I probably mentioned I hate winter.

Beaker, 7:00 am is offset by the fact it's only 5 minutes away :)

Bob is scheduled for surgery on Monday, they are FINALLY going to remove his kidney stones. Dusty and BamBam both sold, no money yet though and they will both be staying at our place for awhile while the ladies get their confidence back and learn how to handle them correctly.

Everyone take care and have a great day.

FREEAING??!! My gosh, it’s still in the mid 80’s here. We haven’t even had any Fall weather yet, much less Winter.

I’m glad to hear about Bob’s pending kidney stone surgery. Once that’s over maybe he can get back to his normal life. I’m sure he’s tired them.

That’s good news about Dusty and BamBam. A couple was supposed to come this morning to look at Goose but they had to cancel because their little girl came down sick and they had to stay home with her. They sound like really nice people though and have several other horses, so they’re not newbies. They just trail ride and want Goose to raise as a replacement for one of their older horses. I was glad to hear that because that’s the kinda life I want for my babies.
