CERNE ABBAS, England, July 19 (UPI) -- A 180-foot-long drawing of Homer Simpson next to an enormous, sacred carving in Dorset, England, has angered pagans, Sky News reported Wednesday.
The group has vowed to do a little "rain magic" to wash away the cartoon character, which was rendered with biodegradable paint on a hillside next to the famous 17th Century fertility symbol, the Cerne Abbas giant.
The picture of Homer Simpson eating a doughnut was etched alongside the chalk outline of the naked, club-wielding giant as a publicity stunt to promote the upcoming release of "The Simpsons Movie."
Doh! Now I saw it.
Personally, I can’t stand the simpsons but this is funny. Whoever drew him did a better job that the drawer of the *sacred icon*.
A ringer !
If Pagans can have their idols so can we.
17th Century fertility symbol”
I see the author and the editor are brilliant historians, educating in top schools....brilliant, just brilliant.
The grass is already greener on Homer’s side!
I bet the “Homer side” is private property. The other side is government property..........
You have helped Homer finally find his purpose in life.
Those are some dedicated Simpsonites.
Is homer trying for a ringer to win a bottle of soda?
I'm not seeing the problem with the article. The Cerne Abbas man, like most chalk glyphs in England, are not that old. There are some truly old geoglyphs - there's one of a running horse which is BC IIRC - but Cerne Abbas is not one of them
I would not have thought that in the era of Cromwell that there would have been “pagans” making this sort of thing. Seems that if it is properly dated as 17th century, then it was not done by pagans. Either it is older than that, or, the neo-pagans are admiring something that someone put up for reasons other than they think (ie, not part of ancient paganism).
Looks like Homer is peeing on Cerne Abbas’ feet.
Or either it belongs to the church. :)
BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAaa....
That is hillarious!
I think so too. Notice the border between the greener left side and the yellowish right side
If that was a “fertility” symbol, it ain’t workin’..........
