Bigotry and intimidation defeated the immigration bill more than anything else.

Right-wing media pundits and their ultraconservative followers spewed a systematic and steady stream of vitriol that was so extreme that even Senate Republicans complained.

"There's racism in this debate," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., reacting to the tone used by the immigration bill's opponents.

Ever since the immigration issue picked up steam last spring, an increasingly nasty tone of hatred and intolerance has been directed at Hispanics in America.

I disagree. Most legal hispanic US citizens I know are just as upset, even more so, over the millions of illegals coming from Mexico. Are we to believe that they are racist against those of their cormer cultures?

No, they are not. And neither are those of us who oppose the illegal immigration (from whatever quarter), it just happens that most are mexican or from spanish speaking cultures).

In fact, I would say that to label being against illegal aliens as being rascist is in itself a rascist arguement because it presumes that the issue is hispanic when in fact it is not. It is about illegals of any particular stripe, whether hispanic or not.

Trust me...I am mightily ticked about illegal immigration the invasion from Mexico. There are stretches of I-10 here in SoCal where every billboard is in Spanish...uh, hello??
