A (quasi-official) Weekend Singles thread
Teh Intarweb; Free Republic | 20 April 2007 | Singles Thread Denizens 8^)

Posted on 04/20/2007 8:13:38 PM PDT by rzeznikj at stout

This week's (unofficial) topic: Open-Line Weekend. Anything that is FR-safe (for News and Chat) is fair game.

Only thing is: let's not get at each other--this is (well, I hope it is), a place to put politics, issues, etc. aside...

That said, let the games begin...

Hi Bill,

I thought maybe you went to VT/VPI. Wow, that news must have hit you like a brick! Probably impossible for you to reconcile your time there, and an idyllic campus setting, with what happened...hard for all of us...

stout, I’m out...off to bed...you all keep the night lights burning :)

I really hope your vision is wrong this time. If I have a choice of living in a country run by the likes of Giuliani or having the world end in 2012, I'd rather have the world end. (I'm not entirely joking.) I really think that Giuliani will end up destroying the GOP and the country. I certainly won't vote for him.

Personally, I think a competitive primary is good for any party. The last really competitive primary that the GOP had was in 1980, and one could argue that the results of that primary gave us five of the last seven victories. The Democrats' last competitive primary was 1992, and that primary gave them their two victories. I realize that things are somewhat different now because some of the candidates would take us in such radically different (and wrong) directions, but a hard-fought primary can often do more good than harm for the party.

Anyway, I really hope your vision is off this time.

Bill

It's been a strange time. I felt better when I learned that my friend's kids were okay. Two of the professors were there when I was there. I've looked through the alumni magazines enough that I've probably seen their pictures many times. Any memory that I'd have of them would likely be a false memory from seeing the pictures. Still, I keep trying to remember whether I ever met them. I took most of my junior and senior level courses at Holden Hall. Holden Hall is the one that's connected to Norris Hal and forms the other half of a giant U-shaped building.

The rest of us will get beyond the horror of what happened much faster than you and others with a more direct connection, I ‘spose.
