The Sox and Yankees are resuming their long standing rivalry with and a mix of old and new faces. The Sox have upgraded their team with additions of JD Drew, Julio Lugo and Dice-K. The Yankees return with changes to the starting rotation and the subtraction of Gary Sheffield. Both teams figure to compete deep into the season.
For two states without much to brag about with respect to their elected officials,
Chucky and Hidabeast vs the Flip Flopping Gigalo and the Swimmer
or
The Spitter vs Coupe Deval
Here's to another season of Yankees vs Red Sox on FR!
Francona has decided that the Red Sox need only make it to the playoffs. That means trying out flops like Gag-Me, resting starting pitchers and regulars and trying to get healthy. I know Sox fans will be pissed but there might be some logic to all this. WTF knows?
I gotta hand it to you but the Yankees look very strong going into the playoffs. Jeter’s knee is their only hitch but certainly not something to get up in arms over. Cashman didn’t whore out the franchise to buy a player so if they win it will have been from doing it the right way and that’s growing from within.
Detroit simply fell apart pitching wise and their staff tossed the big salad the second half of the year.
The NL has some interesting pitching so whoever the AL sends out there had better be be able to make some runs appear.
I think we need an official MLB playoffs thread. We have a good sized Sox list but I know that there are other baseball fans out there (even the Yankee types) that follow the game and have been copied here based on other baseball threads they have posted on.
It’s hard to do a game ping for all the games but with one active thread going we can surely keep a lively discussion for a few weeks.
Any and all interested?
GO Padres!
You ain't kidding. That was one wild crowd last night for a baseball game. It was a lot of fun to be there.
Absolutely.
I also wholeheartedly suggest that all participants agree to shout down or press abuse on nasty trash-talking. It’s a thinking man’s game, let’s all get along as ladies and gentlemen.
Does that mean we can’t abuse the Yankee fans? Is so then I’m out.
:-)
That’s a lot of threads. Why don’t we just create a pennant/playoffs thread and see where it goes? If we can get to 10,000 posts then we have to start a new one.
I can start one tomorrow at the office. I have a good Red Sox Ping list with a few other names to get it going.
Well, that’s three threads. I never thought of three as a lot.
I just think a refresh at the turn of the page (okay, now the playoffs . . . okay, now the world series) is going to be important. Whatever.
Anglels Win! Angels Win!
Add me to the playoff thead ping list.
I’m interested only if the Yankees Win!
Please add me to your projected new list.
As the token Royal fan.
Red Sox get swept by Toronto leaving only 1 1/2 game lead over the Yankees. Any word when when Manny gets back into the lineup?

Another miserable game tonight. Now Papelbon is giving up grand slams to rookies. Incredible.
Stick a fork in 'em...
Ah, yes... thanks for that reminder. We were lucky enough to be at the 1:05pm game that day, which was a make-up of the rained-out game of April 15, 2007. It was Clay Buchholtz's Major League debut. Red Sox 8, Angels 4.
Such a nice win... seems like years ago now, doesn't it?
I don't know for sure, but they (Francona, Tom Caron and Jim Rice) were sure hinting around on NESN tonight that it won't be anytime soon. Manny can hit (he's been taking limited BP), but supposedly he can't run at all, no do any type of fielding. I think it's very possible that he's done for the year... hope I'm wrong.
Please add me to your MLB playoffs thread!
Thanks for the info. The Sox sure could use his stick right now behind Ortiz.
