Anna Nicole - The Drug Factor

Perscription drugs were Anna Nicole’s lifelong companion.

The just-released Florida autopsy has confirmed what was suspected all along — an accidental overdose from prescription drugs caused Anna Nicole’s death.

Anna Nicole’s substance abuse goes way back to a 1989 drunk driving arrest in Texas when she was just 21. By the mid-1990’s, her problems reached a whole new level.

In 1994, Anna Nicole was rushed to the hospital after cops said she mixed alcohol with prescription drugs. Just a year later Anna Nicole was seen, slumped in a wheelchair, checking into the Betty Ford clinic after what she said was a bad reaction to two prescription medications.

Anna Nicole’s former bodyguard Pierre Dejean told INSIDE EDITION that she took prescription drugs in alarming doses, which sometimes resulted in rage-filled phone calls from the model.

The bodyguard showed INSIDE EDITION what he said was one of Anna Nicole’s actual prescriptions - one for the painkiller Demerol, as well as bottles he said once contained Anna Nicole’s painkillers, Lorcet and Vicodin.

As the years went on, Anna Nicole insisted that she’d turned her life around, repeatedly denying that she was abusing drugs. But her antics aroused suspicions.

When INSIDE EDITION spoke to Anna Nicole backstage at the 2004 American Music Awards, she clearly appeared disoriented, and her bodyguard and Howard K. Stern held her up as she walked around.

Now Anna Nicole’s autopsy confirms once and for all just how terrible a role perscription drugs played throughout her troubled life.

HOWARD K. STERN's family is fighting mad and talking exclusively with ET, as BONNIE and GARY STERN defend their brother's name!

Since his partner, ANNA NICOLE SMITH, passed away in February, Howard has been called everything from a murderer and a kidnapper to a free-loader.

"It makes me sick," Bonnie says. "Because, first of all, I know it's not true."

Some reports in the media claim that Howard is making millions off of Anna's death, but Bonnie blasts these claims.

"The person who's being accused of making all the money -- whether from life insurance policies or selling things to the media, even the funeral and stuff -- that is the person who has to pay all his own legal expenses and his own legal fees," she tells ET. "My parents are the ones who are paying for it."

"He set up a trust fund for DANNIELYNN," Gary explains. "Any money that came from the funeral went directly to that trust fund for Dannielynn. He has not made one penny off of this, not one penny. For 12 years he was [Anna's] companion, attorney, publicist," he adds. "He helped rebuild her career, her legacy, and did it for free. He did it because he loved Anna."

When it comes to Anna's mother, VIRGIE ARTHUR, Howard's family holds nothing back.

"She's staying in hotels that she definitely can't afford on the amount of money she says she makes," Bonnie claims.

Virgie has reportedly filed papers in the Bahamas hoping to become Dannielynn's guardian ad litem.

"You will never get that baby," Bonnie insists. "Never. Over our dead body. That's my reaction to that. Never."

Gary believes Anna made her wishes known, saying, "I think Anna was very clear about who she wanted to be in her child's life and who she didn't. She wanted Howard to be the father. And Howard, until his dying day, is going to make sure that Dannielynn is loved and cared for in a loving and nurturing environment."

The network ran a poll question on the popular ‘Showbiz Tonight’ program that asked “Did Howard K. Stern” fail Anna Nicole Smith? An overwhelming 79 percent answered yes to the question in the poll, the show reported on Tuesday night. Only 21 percent said no.

In light of the precedent set by the flying imams...does this mean that Howard can sue us if we voted "yes" in this poll???

Daniel's Inquest: The Latest

ET has all the latest details into the official inquest into the death of Anna Nicole Smith's son.

The jurors in the inquest into the death of ANNA NICOLE SMITH's son DANIEL will reconvene on April 11 in the Bahamas.

Last week, the court proceedings were adjourned, after a jury of seven women was selected. At that time, lawyers for Anna's partner, HOWARD K. STERN, filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of the Bahamas and the adjournment was a result of that appeal.

Howard filed the appeal to allow his attorneys to question the jury. Howard's lawyers have requested that the court submit a special questionnaire for the screening process, and they argued that it would be impossible to secure an impartial jury due to the publicity surrounding Anna Nicole and Daniel's deaths -- rendering the entire proceeding unconstitutional.

The Bahamian Supreme Court is scheduled to hear Howard's appeal over the jury on April 12.

Last week, Anna's estranged mother, VIRGIE ARTHUR arrived at the courthouse with a fresh new hairstyle. She told ET, "I just want you all to know that I'm here for my family and my children." She added that she would be in court every day of the inquest into her grandson's death. She has also requested that she be able to testify.

Forty witnesses are on the list for the inquest, which is expected to include testimony from a hospital nurse who may claim that she noticed two white tablets on the bed where Daniel died -- one that turned out to be methadone.

A doctor who observed the heartbreaking scene described it as, "Son on bed, female at foot of bed, crying, man standing over female holding her, no signs of life in youth."

ET has obtained the full witness list for the inquest, and Anna Nicole (as Vickie Lynn Marshall) is listed; a statement will be presented in the late model's absence. The list also confirms that Anna's partner, Howard, has been summoned, as well as the man claiming to be baby DANNIELYNN's father, LARRY BIRKHEAD.

"I'm just here to do what's right, to help Daniel," he told ET. "I'm here to give the truth."

Also included on the complete witness list are Anna's former friends, G. BEN THOMPSON and FORD SHELLEY, and her reported former physician, DR. SANDEEP KAPOOR. The police photographer has been called to testify, as were various employees from Doctors Hospital, which is where Daniel died. Each witness is entitled to bring their own attorney.

The 20-year-old Daniel died from a lethal combination of Lexapro, Zoloft and methadone while visiting his mom and newborn sister in the Bahamas last September.

I think Anna was not very clear - seeing as how she was in a drug induced stupor during the time Howard was in her life - since 1995. Howard wanted her to want him to be the father even if she got pregnant by someone else when Howard was not looking. And Howard, until his dying day - and his plans did not include his own death, is going to make sure that Dannielynn is cared for in the same drug addled semi-conscious state that he kept her mother in.

When exactly did HK$ decide he had to control her personally in order to maintain his focus on the Marshall millions - or lose his nest egg? There had to be a defining moment for Howie - he had to determine how to isolate, brainwash and keep Anna dependent on his lawyer/management skills.

Psychopaths are first and foremost, opportunists. Everything is in service to their own wants and ambition. He would have targetted ANS from the beginning, cause psychopaths are always looking for vulnerability, and she had a load of weaknesses and vulnerabilities, plus an exciting, chaotic lifestyle, fertile grounds for a psychopath.

The defining moment was when he met her; that, and the Marshall millions. He's been getting something out of this from the beginning, and over time, he did what psychopaths invariably do- suck the life out of someone, and leave devastation in their wake. If it was good for Howard, he did it. Especially after Daniel's death, it was over for Anna- he took over her life, and in some sense, took her life. By the time of her death, there was nothing left of her except a shell.

He manipulated and schemed from the beginning. And she provided him with endless opportunities to take over her life. So that's exactly what he did. Howard is not interested in the correct thing; he is interested in what he's getting out of something, even if it means placing himself in danger. Risk-taking is a huge thrill. I guarantee you, Howard is loving every minute of this debacle, even at cost to himself.

I don't think he's scared at all. Psychopaths know no fear. They are wired differently. He will only be concerned if he gets caught. Otherwise, this is all a game to him. He really thinks he's smarter than anybody. I'm waiting for the day he finally fires everyone and takes on a fool for a lawyer- himself. Just like Ted Bundy.
