So the wallet must not have been in the jeans when HKS snagged them.

That's kind of what I thought...but you'd think that DNA testing has been around long enough at this point to have been used by someone who needed it to establish or refute paternity for one reason or another.

That's what made me wonder if there was some other reason they held to a legal definition of paternation rather than a biological one.

You're saying this applies to the Bahamian laws?

You're right. The PI Jack is friends with Martino and that is how Daniel was put together with the PI through Martino whom Daniel was living with.

I am saying that this is what this lab does for all Chain of Custody DNA swabbing. It is their procedure no matter what country it is done in.

All this was panned out in the court before the swabbing was done. Baird himself discussed it with the court.

Do you not remember when they were told to pick a DNA lab to have their DNA experts in the Bahamian court? - shortly after that the DNA swabbing was done.

I agree with you, TexKat. At this point, the Bahamians are making up their own minds about HKS (and it is not pretty). He will eventually (hopefully, soon) face a jury of Bahamians regarding Daniel's death. A 'boycott' or even negative presumptions about the Bahamas from the US (on blogs, TV, etc.) could have a 'backlash' effect, in that the Bahamian people could turn towards the 'accused' (aka HKS) in an effort to retaliate against negative press, comments, etc. from the U.S. Remember that the Bahamas is dependent on 'tourist' dollars for their economy, and they do not want to lose their livelyhood....(but you should also think about how things played out in Aruba?)

The PI's name is Jack Harding and he isn't on the witness list posted at #13,609.

Sorry...I wasn't thinking when I said "sample'. I sure hope, though, that you are correct in your analysis of the DNA results!

Stern is really un-freaking-believable. Just when you think you've seen it all...he ups his game!

How is interfering with the inquest in the best interest of Daniel or Anna?? If my son died under questionable circumstances and I was no longer here...I would like it if my "commitment ceremony guy" did everything possible to find out why my beloved son was found dead at the age of 20 years. Apparently Anna wanted to know badly enough to hire private medical examiner to determine her son's cause of death.

I can't answer as to the legal part of the question right now, but I got a slight picture of the situation in The Bahamas when I was researching a very simple question.

There is a ton of publicity about King Eric Gibson and his musical talents, entrepreneural efforts on behalf of The Bahamas, sailing and boating expertise and golf pursuits.

He was given a Member of the Order of the British Empire (Civil Division) award by the Queen, which is quite an honor. In all the biographies about him and all the reams of info put out there, not once do they ever enumerate his children.

We've seen in the stories about Gerlene that she has raised 7 children - in fact, King Eric said "her children." We know, or assume, that he and Gerlene are divorced and that Brigitte Neven is his long-time "companion" (some stories call her his "common-law wife").

But never in these articles, even ones where they start off touting him as a respected "father, teacher, musician" and so forth, starting with "father," do they ever say "his cihldren David Shane Gibson, Immigration Minister" and so on, listing all the children.

The more I did some reading, in fact, finding that another well known old-time musician, "Duke Errol" Strachan, is KEG's first cousin - I found that all the other old-timers identify their children in articles and bios. I went thru dozens of such articles.

I was able to ascertain that King Eric's parents were named Robert and Drucilla, assuming Gibson was their last name. He was born in Acklins, a far "family island" of The Bahamas. It was a poor area. The father lead the church choir at their Baptist church and the mother played the organ.

After that, there is nothing more except all about his career and nothing about marriage and children. I gleaned a few more relatives by reading all the regatta results - John Gibson is his brother. Sheldon and Delworth (also spelled Shelton and Delsworth in clippings) are two more sons, brothers of Shane. Yvonne Gibson is a daughter - sister of Shane.

That's all I know. I've checked out other Gibsons who are musicians or sailors, but can't shed any light on any family relationship. In one article, Shane was giving a speech and thanked King Eric Gibson for something - never acknowledging they were father/son or calling him "Dad".

Then, there are tons of stories about these same old-timers where none of the children have the fathers' names and none of the mothers ever married the fathers. Tons of those. Lots of young boys taken in from far islands to live with some other family and never going back.

It seems to be a touchy subject, from what I can gather. So, I'm not sure we would ever know for sure who belongs to whom - and I'm sure their paternity laws have to give a lot of leeway for fathers who don't want to be fathers and families who do, but aren't "legal."

In some ways, HKS is fitting right in.

You are right, except they gave him until April 3rd to file an appeal to stop the results from being released. He did that yesterday, so as far as Bahamas is concerned the whole test is in limbo and the Supremes there could say no swab, only blood and the baby has to be an adult for blood (according to CTV this afternoon).

It could ultimately go all the way to the British Court of Appeal, but can Larry foot that kind of expense? The best option is to get California to suponea the DNA from Ohio and let Stern file an appeal here in California.

Yes, but they left Stern an out in the way they ordered the testing. Now he has filed the appeal, the Bahamian Court of Appeal can find the test was not admissible and they can vacate the order for the swab and order it destroyed at the lab in Ohio.

Nah. No damsels in distress here, anymore. Dannielynn, yes - but not good for TV right now, with the ET exclusive.

Hmmm, I had an opinion on this before but now I have to think about it. Have to get back to you on this one!

Excellent point. If we let them be, for now, it could play out agains HKS. However, if we pressure too strongly, the Bahamians could adopt a "you can't tell us what to do" attitude which could, indeed, play toward HKS's position.
