NVidia and Vista(An annoyed vanity)

I really like Vista, it is very nice looking and has some neat gadgets and some appreciated security upgrades. However the once steady videocard company, renowned for its quality drivers, has really laid an egg with Vista.Because of nVidias inability to properly put forth quality drivers I am left with turning all of the eyecandy down on my system, not playing games and instead of letting my PC whisk gently off to sleep I have to shut it down anytime I am going to be away for such a period that the screensaver may be needed or sleep or hibernation modes are too be required, which sucks I like to just sit down and move my mouse and wa la my computer comes back on, or worst just push the power button and it instantly resumes. Not anymore I have boot from cold and wait the long loading time for it to boot, because Vistas load time is not as quick as XP's. Meh I shouldnt complain its a free computer and it sure as heck beats a Mac.

I just updated my nVidia drivers last week for my XP Pro SP2 system and wound up rolling back based on everything that suddenly wouldn't work. Can only imaging how it'd work with Vista.

Those Mac commercials are lookin' real good.

I have n'Vidia card and Vista Ultimate works just fine. What I don't like about Vista is the Defrag. You can't see it work so you don't know if it's working and after hours the only thing that happens is it goes back to START DEFRAGMENTER.

That's what really SUCKS. There are also a few other things it doesn't like, such as Norton's Ghost and Norton's Anti-Virus unless it's the 2007 version.

it sure as heck beats a Mac.

Lesseehere...you've got a popular video card from a major manufacturer, and you have to "turn down the eye candy" and stop playing graphics-intensive games and turn the computer off frequently and suffer long load times...that sure as heck beats a Mac how exactly?

A maxed-out Mac Mini with big flat-panel is about $2500. And it works. Methinks it's time.

With Vista, M$ changed their driver architecture. Older drivers may work, but not work well, or not at all. If you haven't downloaded specific drivers from nVidia, then that's your problem. If you have, then you're correct in that they didn't get it right.

As for Vista's new security model, you may want to go read some more about that.

Nope, and I will tell you why. WHile on a Mac I could do all of the the productivity I need to do but then I wouldnt be able to do all of the fun things I also want to do, like gaming, Myst just hasnt done it for me in 14 years. Also I like to continously upgrade my computers as long as I own them until I cant squeeze any newer hardware into them, the Mac just doesnt provide the upgrade paths I look for in a computer.

It is sad that you have to buy the most powerful computer loaded with tons of memory and high power graphics card just to run the operating system. I can understand having to upgrade computers to run the latest high-powered applications, but not just to run the operating system. Nothing but bloatware.

It so bad that there is a threated class action lawsuit against nVidia, the WHQL certified drivers for Vista are causing BSOD's, crosshatching, screen tearing and other nasty things. I may just move over to ATI, I hear they have turned there driver issues around.

That has been a windows issue since Win98. You start DEFRAG and as soon as any program writes to the disk, the DEFRAG starts all over again from the beginning.

You have to manually stop most of the processes before DEFRAG will work at all.

Actually you can run the OS with all eyecandy turned on with a 100 dollar GPU, 1 gig of memory and any modern processor and HD with about 40gb's, allowing 15 for the OS. That will run most people about 400 dollars, hardly top o the line stuff. Really its no different than moving from Windows 3.1 to Win95, had to stop using that old 386 33mhz processor system.

I have an NVIDIA adapter and it worked flawlessly with Vista, even with the eyecandy to the max using the Aero(spelling) theme. Now I'm getting the "Your Copy of Windows Is Not Genuine"(it really isn't) and they took my eyecandy away :(. I was just taking it for a spin anyway.

That's not the problem with this one. Defrag worked great with XP Pro. This one you can't even watch to files move so you have no idea if defrag is even working. Also when it's done (I think because you can't tell)you are still at the start window.

After everything you've said and you say it still beats a Mac. Ha ha ha. Come back to the real world.
