This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

Take care of yourself. Hope you feel better soon.
I'm so sorry you are ill, get well soon.

Cool trail riding pics! That's quite a bridge, is that the trailhead there where the cars are? I'd think your trees should be starting to leave out... ours are here.
You can see from Blade's photos that we don't have much sight distance back east. Our area is much the same (we even have some of the same big rocks!)
My typical shot at a whitetail deer is 50-75 yards, unless I'm shooting across a plowed field, in which case I might get a 100-150 yard shot. I read about 500 or 700 yard shots at antelope and say to myself, "Yeah, right!" But it's clear from your pictures that it is not only possible, but mandatory.
That is one of the trail heads. From what Frog says that is a popular hiking trail. We ate lunch in the river bed then headed back. Trees are just barely starting to bud, you can see purple buds on the Red Bud trees and some of the trees were showing small buds. The next couple of weeks there will be a major change.
Great pictures:) You have bridges like the ones where Hair rides. I sure like to know what my horse would do on something like that.

Your pictures make me ready to haul somewhere:)

I didn't see the horses at 1st, in the first picture.
'Mornin Beaker! After reading your post about the horse-share deal, it sounds like you've got a good idea what you want and need and you just need to bow up and tell that to your trainer. After all, that's what you're paying her for. If you want a horse that will make you a better 3rd level rider and the other girl is up for it too, then go for it. I'm just tickled to death for you that you've finally in a position to start working on some of your dreams. Oh, and there's nothing wrong with wanting things NOW. I have a bit of a problem with that myself. :o)
We were quite a ways up in the rocks. Wait until you see one Frog took. You can get more of an idea how high up we were.
Great pics Duchess! Good lookin' man, smart dog, gawgeous hoss, cool cats and the cutest goat and Llama I've ever seen. Man, do you have it made or what?!
We have several bridges here in Alabama. From small foot bridges to big covered bridges. I think Frog has probably posted some of the covered bridge that we ride through in Elkmont, TN. The county I live in has a Covered Bridge Festival every October.

Your pictures make me ready to haul somewhere:)
You know you're welcome to haul here any time if you want to find out :~)
I bet he'd go right across. Might want to follow someone the first time, but after that I bet he'd go :~)
Oooooo Duchess! More good pics! Those 40-mile views are just awe inspiring, and the wild horse pics are so interesting. The bay stallion looks pretty good when you see the side that his mane doesn't cover. The white stallion is really cool too. I'm glad they didn't catch him! I'm really amazed that there are springs like that out there. It all just looks so dry.
Heh, yeah you were. Here's the pic from my vantage point, and hers again for comparison...

I'll post some more later. Gotta go to lunch now.
That is more color than we have. We will probably be like that next weekend. With a week of 70+ temps our plants should start budding out quickly.
Our trees are starting to bud out too... but we don't have any that are red!

The rain has stopped, man it rained hard overnight (my drainage worked wonders getting rid of most of it!) I walked the hay out into the pasture just to force the horses to leave the barn for awhile. They spend most of yesterday and last night in there, they're going to be a mess.

We have grass seed germinating where we've thrown hay, we have seed germinating where we've spread manure and bedding.... new grass is starting to grow everywhere except where we put down grass seed in the lawn.... hmmm....
I'm pretty darn pleased. There has been an interesting turn of events, however. I had a long talk with the other girl yesterday, and I thought that it would be a good idea if she learned a little bit more about horses first, before we go out and do this just for her own peace of mind and so that she can take care of things in case of an emergency. She "confessed" to me yesterday that she wanted to team up with me because I was more experienced. I told her that I would be more than willing to help her out, but I thought that she should start by just reading up and hanging around the barn more and that I was going to let her borrow some of my horse related reading. I'm going to copy some stuff out of the Horse Industry Handbook that I have, and was my horse bible for a long time. Another good one is The Horse Owner's Veterinary Handbook. Maybe I was a bit of a jerk, but I want her to understand what's involved before she gets involved, because she's so nervous as it is. The last thing I want is for her to decide that it's a bad idea after she already has the horse. So in the meantime, I'm going to work on my own skills, get my butt in gear, and ride a few different horses that belong to my trainer.
Heh... I'm with you on those shows... some of them are hard to watch... I never know who to root for when there's a lion and a baby gazelle. Or the zebra and the crocodile...

Too much drama in nature!

I liked Steve Irwin for that though, he probably wouldn't interrupt a hunt, but he'd save something that was trapped or injured if he found it in time.
