...With a record of 2-11, the silver-and-Honolulu blue are firmly entrenched at No. 32 on any power poll in this spiral arm of the galaxy. Entrenched, that is, until another loss drops them behind Ohio State, Florida and the Hamburg Sea Devils. Think it can't get worse? Hey, this is the Lions. NFL schedule makers saw fit to arrange the endgame Kitty Cats' so, so long season likewise: at the Green Bay Packers where the Lions haven't won since a guy named Brett Favre took over there (that's right, 1992); against the Chicago Bears in a game which figures to see Motor City backers immortalize the chant "Fire *&#!!%&ing Millen!"; and at the Dallas Cowboys , who on New Year's Eve will probably looking to bag the No. 2 seed in the NFC... Kevin Jones, who was knocked out of the loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, figures to be out for the remainder of the season... Pro Bowl nominee Shaun Rogers... was slapped by the commissioner after testing positive for steroids. The judgment had Rogers forcibly sitting out four games and giving up $250,000. Naturally, "Big Baby" was innocent, protesting that the positive test represented a product that the 354-pound Rogers used to help him control his weight. Or he has asthma. Or he thought they were Shawne Merriman's Pez. Or something... Team officials announced yesterday that WR Mike Williams - you remember him: the former first-round draft pick cum The Most Useless Player in the NFL Today - flunked a weigh-in. At 240 pounds, Williams only missed the target set by Rod Marinelli and Co. by 20. Though no punitive measures have been mentioned, any punishment would seem pointless other then some quality time on the bench... Fire &#!!%&ing Millen.

Detroit is on the way to the worst sports year for any city.
Tigers - .292 winning percentage (47-114)
Lions - .219 winning percentage (3-12-1)
Red Wings - .262 winning percentage (9-28-3)
Pistons - .364 winning percentage (12-21)
As Han Solo hollered, "don't give me the odds!" :^) The last championships for Pistons, Red Wings, and Lions had been all in the 1950s, then the Pistons had their "bad boys" run including back to back championships, then Scotty took over coaching and the Dead Wings came to life and won some Stanley Cups. The Tigers won the World Series in 1968 and 1984, and in this century (under 'Jimmy Smokes') had divisional titles and played (and alas, lost) a couple of World Series.
The Lions had their best season record ever under Cocaine Wayne, and most (all?) of the current Lions probably weren't even born then.
Patricia ran NE's defense. The NE defense has had a great year this year without him, and NE didn't do too badly last season either. That's just a weird coincidence though.
I don't generally like the idea of revolving door firings, but for the Lions, holding on too long hasn't panned out either. Matt Patricia is the rebound relationship, it's time the Lions got a real coach.
The Curse of Bobby Layne is real!
I had no dog in the hunt. I wouldn't say that it was well executed for the most part, one team sucked a little less when it counted.

I like the Niners and Titans because they play good old fashioned smash-mouth football.
Niners had some hurt players who came back for today’s game, it clearly makes a difference. They will be tough to beat.
The NFL and Playahs Assoc reached agreement (and my apologies if I've already mentioned this) to start 17 game seasons, with more wild cards in the playoffs, and reducing the number of preseason games to two. It won't start for a few years.
I turned on the KC / Texans, it was in pregame, I found something else to do for a while, went back to the TV, 21-0; went away again, went back, 24-28. Then apparently Andy made some adjustments -- I went to the store and when I got back a few minutes ago, 31-48.
