COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A 14-year-old boy who was throwing eggs at cars along with two other teenagers was shot and killed by someone who had been in a sport-utility vehicle that was hit, police said.

Danny Crawford was killed by a gunshot wound to his upper body, Franklin County Coroner Brad Lewis said. He died in an alley on the city's west side early Saturday, authorities said.

The teens were throwing eggs at cars when an SUV that was struck chased them, Detective Tim Huston said. The vehicle stopped and several gunshots were fired, he said.

Police were looking for the shooter, who fled in the SUV, Sgt. Dana Norman said. The SUV believed to be involved was found a short time later near where Crawford died.

The other teens were not hurt, police said.

I agree with you on this. And just what would it have been if the three were just caught? Not a damn thing. That is the problem. Eggs will ruin a paint job not to mention that if they hit a moving car the problems could have been injury or even death.

Kids do stupid things, but apparently some-one more stupid than kids do stupid things.

There never has been and, there will never be an SUV worth the life of a child.

How can some-one be so stupid? Before you answer, if you have a child this age, look at them real good, this could have been your child.

The part about the SUV is totally irrelevant. The reporter who wrote that is an ass.
As for the slain part, doesn't seem legal to me, but when you are in a car and someone throws things at it you don't know if they are throwing eggs or rocks. So if you think that they are attacking you you have the right to repel them with deadly force. But taking revenge is not legal.

The a**hole who wrote post #17.

"A's" don't ping people they are talking about. That is an FR unwritten rule.

Also, while traveling down our local highway, I had an egg thrown from an overpass at my truck. It hit mostly square down the center of the windshield and cracked my windshield. It is a wonder it didn't go through the windshield and kill me (no passengers were with me).

Egg throwing can kill... and if I could of got to them, I am not sure what I would of done with those kids (I assume they were kids).

Apparently you guys haven't ever been hit by an egg while operating a motorcycle, with your girlfriend/boyfriend hanging on behind you.

This happened to me a while back and when something hits you and explodes while you're driving 45 mph, you and whoever is with you (if anyone) are likely to be shaken.

I am fortunate to not have lost control and caused an accident.

When it happens to you, it feels like attempted murder, trust me.

If you don't want to suffer the possible consequences, don't do the crime. It isn't hard calculus.

Bleeding heart stupidity lies at the center of many of todays societal ills.

Did this kid deserve to be shot and killed? No. Did this SUV owners deserve to have his vehicle damaged? No. Who initiated the conflict? The kid. Ergo, the kid is 100% at fault for what happened to his stupid self...

Darwin wins again...

A motorcycle wasn't involved in this. If one had been the case may have been different.

I have a hard time believing you respect human life if you're defending someone who would take yours (perhaps not intentionally) in a heartbeat.

So now in order for their to be a problem with egg-throwing, the vehicle has to be a motorcycle? LOL.

"I was amazed at the number of people who said the shooter had every right to kill the kid."

To kill him? No.

To take woeful revenge against him in some form? Absolutely. That should not be a crime.

You must be dreaming to arrive at that conclusion when the context of the article was a 14 year old being murdered.

I think that the "weight" added to help balance the "Egg" side of the scales is that THE EGG GUY HAD NO REASON for his actions.

The SUV guy over reacted...but his was a REaction to an attack.

VS.

The EGG guy CHOSE to perform a selfish ACTION, begging for another's reaction.

When I was just 16 with my learner's permit, my father took me out to teach me how to drive. It was like the second time I had ever driven on a public street. Some boys waited until I drove under an overpass & dropped an old tire on the hood of our car. My dad saw them run off - I was busy trying to keep control of the car. It scared me to death and I hate to think what my dad might have done if he could have caught those boys.

No one is saying it was right what the driver did. What I believe is the relevant point here is that parents who CARE about their children teach them not to do things like that because pranks like that can have tragic consequences.

Who is to say that the driver of the SUV (if he was indeed the real owner) hadn't had problems with those kids before? Someone with anger management problems can just go off because of something like that. Not excusing it - but parents are doing a real disservice to their children by not teaching them better. To just say "kids will be kids" isn't good enough in today's world. There are dangerous people out there & you don't bring eggs to a gunfight.

Likely that the SUV was drug property, and the occupants were trafficking or dealing that day.

VERY likely.

The thoroughly modern notion that 14-17 year olds are children and should essentially get out of jail free has caused no end of social problems. A post adolescent is not a child. Pretending they are empowers them to act like it, and grown bodies acting like children cause no end of mayhem. They learn for 4 or 5 years that mayhem has no consequences, until they turn 18 and are sent off to prison within months.

I hate people who victimize children, this was no child.

The shooter's MISTAKE? Shooting an unarmed 14 year old, who's cowering in a dead-end alley, is not a mistake, it's cold-blooded murder.

"There's one of those right here, now.

The a**hole who wrote post #17."

so if the kid wasn't involved in the egg throwing he'd still be dead?

I'm fairly draconian, but the punishment still needs to fit. Teenage egg throwing is not a death sentence.

I can't see anything wrong with what PD said?

Can you elaborate?

You essentially admitted to there being different levels of dangers, based on the vehicle: one for SUVs and one for motorcycles.

Is there another category for compact cars weighing under a certain amount?

I mean, c'mon, something flying at you, out of nowhere, when you're in moving traffic is potentially deadly. It could cause you to jerk the wheel or handlebars unexpectedly, causing a serious accident.

You may have been alive for 30 or 40 or 50 years and never panicked like that. So it makes sense that some people would flip out: their very existence felt seriously compromised, perhaps for the first time in their life -- can you blame them for reacting so strongly?
