The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I've discovered that it doesn't matter whether or not he sees his shadow, most folks will still have approximately 42 days of winter left. Of course, here in MA, it stays cold through mid April, so we'd have to tack on another 15!

Good morning and happy friday!

Got actual cheerful work to do today so I'm happy. I need to hit the grocery store... might go at lunch, we'll see.

What did the grocery store ever do to you?

;-)

Good morning!

Well, after work it's full of people with screaming just-out-of-daycare kids so I would like to blow it up... or just go at lunch and be happy. It will be very nice one day to be a housewife and shop during the day.

When I was single, I worked the 3-11 shift and would do my grocery shopping after work in the middle of the night. Just me and the shelf-stockers!

That's a fun option! I like going at lunchtime because the butcher's counter guys aren't busy and will cut me weird things like "one pound of rump roast".

The local paper today had two stories at the top of the front page, right next to each other with similar graphs. #1 was "Global Warming is Our Fault" and was about how the rise in temperatures is catastropic blah-blah-blah. #2 was about the hideous cold we're getting this weekend and how Sunday has a high of 0 (which is not a temperature, it's missing something).

You haven't lived until you see a C-5 Galaxy land.

The caption of the picture at the link reads: "'Securing the future' LA CEIBA, Honduras (AFPN) -- Crew members move a UH-60 Black Hawk off of a C-5 Galaxy in La Ceiba, Honduras. The C-5, from the 105th Airlift Wing, New York Air National Guard, delivered three Black Hawks and a Humvee for the "New Horizons 2006 -- Honduras" joint training exercise. The Black Hawks, deployed here from the New York Army National Guard's 3-142 Aviation Battalion, will provide transport and emergency evacuation support for New Horizons. (U.S. Air Force photo by Capt. Mike Chillstrom)."

The C-5 is the largest transport plane in the US Air Force's inventory, and it takes off and lands in what seems to be slow motion. You stand there, watching it, and your brain is telling you the thing is too durn big to be in the air.

An amazing sight.

I've seen the big transport planes...but not these big guys! Awesome!

The ones I have seen also seem incredible...

I bet lots of people in the SA area wave at the guys flying over...I am a bit of a novelty to the Tulsa guys, I think...

I used to go at eight on Saturdays...no one out then, or hardly. That was the commissary in Germany...and then they changed their hours because they said there weren't enough customers that early to justify being open. But that's what I liked! Heh...

Usually isn't too bad after seven in the evening, but I hate going right after work - always crowded, always lots of cranky people who, like me, just want to get home. Unless I absolutely have to, I don't stop for stuff on the way home.

The last time I was unemployed, I would go on Thursday mornings. The sales flyers would come out on Wednesdays, and by Thursday I would have all my coupons in a row. The only people in the store would be older ladies, and I could zip up and down the aisles most efficiently.

Ah, those were the days ...!
