"I was tempted but didn't sin."

IMHO a person who is tempted by gay sex is either gay or bisexual. Perhaps this would not be acceptable in his line of work.

Temptation is not acceptable? Amazing.

If the New Life Church or the National Association of Evangelicals wants to hire someone who is tempted by gay sex (i.e. who is gay), that's their business. I was implying that had they known, church leaders would probably at least have considered this unacceptably risky.

I can't believe this guy thinks we believe his lies. "I bought drugs but threw them away. I paid a gay prostitute but only had a massage...once a month for three years!!" The lies have to stop.

Of course they should look at Jones but Haggard is a pastor and leader and has a secret life. Hypocracy is the most damaging thing to Christianity than anything.

I attended New Life for years but my husband and I left because we felt the church had too much pride and that the ambiance was more 'entertainment' than anything else. If you want to read some appalling comments from Colorado Springs gay community, read the comments to this article:

"Bought drugs didn't take them."
"I was tempted but didn't sin."

I guess buying the drugs wasn't a sin?

This guy seems typical of the high profile evangelist/Super Pastor types. He needs to get down to reality; this episode has caused more harm to the body of Christ than if he had never gotten into the ministry.

"The best bet is to eliminate minsterial associations, and where they already exist, self-perpetuationg church hierarchies."

Definately!

The Lord called them Nicolaitanes (Rulers over the people) and said that he hated them.

It doesn't take a genius or a lefty to come up with Faggard. My criticism has been of him, not the conservative movement of which I support. In fact, my posts have consistently stated his foibles have NO effect on my views or my vote, nor should they of anyone.

But the guy is a lying creep and is making it worse for everyone by his changing stories and Clintonian parsing. Sorry, I'm one of those consistent folks who don't only criticze bad Dem behavior.

Another reason I left MSR a long time ago. (main stream religions)

Me too. There are exceptions, of course, but given the sorry state of religious organizations I'd rather rely on my own study of scripture.

The peyote using churches are actually much more complex than the stuff Haggard was into. Not that I approve of the use of peyote or amanita muscaria, or of shamanistic chants and so forth, but the point is to achieve a state of mind to commune with God.

Haggard's approach is to fill the collection plate and rake off a nice share. Otherwise he wouldn't be able to pay for all that meth (and whatever else he's been snorthing).

I've never heard of this guy but he certainly is not the one who sang those songs you mentioned. That was Merle Haggard, and while he might have had his own set of problems back in the day, he's not to be confused with Ted Haggard.
