have been writing these since the first bbs's came out. have never used caps and never will. it is a recognized style

Yes, it quickly allows the reader to recognize you are lazy and do not understand effective communication.

The Department of Defense (DoD) announced today the launch of TRICARE's "Healthy Choices for Life" campaign, a two-year initiative dedicated to building awareness for three key health issues: reducing alcohol abuse, tobacco cessation and weight management.

"Preventing these unhealthy behaviors is critical to the readiness of our forces and the health of our nation as a whole. I am pleased by the successful programs already in place in the Services and the innovative approaches to prevention, education and treatment that TRICARE is pursuing," said Winkenwerder.

Well said!

We're dealing with someone who is egocentric, immature and a very, very poor communicator.

Not to mention extremely rude.....

But she had FUN, and that's what it's really all about now, isn't it? :)

Ease up a bit. Back in bad old days of the BBS', we paid by the character.

Capital letters were more expensive? Were you paying by the pixel?

You remind me how an addict talks. Lots of excuses to hold onto and condone chemical crutches. That's all there are too is excuses.

Never been addicted to anything actually. BTW I started smoking AFTER the Navy and smoked about 5 years. Drinking? Yea I did it. As a 16 year old I made my own wine too which was stronger than 3.2 beer. Never any hard core drugs though.

Like I said Rummy's military has issues he refuses to address. Rummy's first tenure as Sec of Defense was no different and I know because I was in service then. The chemical abuse and alcohol usage rates were likely much higher back then. I know the desertion and AWOL rates were.

The stress mentioned in that article is because of the PP Planning on the parts of these following men. GHW Bush SR, Sec of Def Cheney, Bill Clinton, Les Aspin, GW Bush and Rummy as well as the sitting CONGRESS during all these terms. It is the duty of congress to make provision for the military and to set the strength numbers. If I was headed for my third tour to Iraq I might drink also. This is typical spin the problem politics coming from the administration.

Or let's put it another way. I can go into a discussion board that has former shipmates. Everything gets talked about. Ports, favorite beer or mixed drink etc. The youngest in there now would be in their 30. the oldest some maybe in the early 80's. They survived. Even Plankowners from the mid 1960's have port parting stories as do the ones under Reagan and even Clinton up till decomm in 1996. Yea they post come to town and I'll but you a cold one.

But the fact you lump even smoking a blasted cigarette in with this doesn't do your argument any good. I stopped smoking them 20 years ago with no problem doing so but I like a cigar once in a blue moon just because. I can buy a pint of Jack Daniels and will have one drink straight and then forget it till next year. That report was just propaganda to explain away the woes and management abuses at the Pentagon and Department of Defense. They ain't seen nothing till they start seeing the SF's show stress from their over deployments. Who will they blame then? TV?

Yes, but it's all OUR fault for not taking her seriously.

I have an idea! I think I'll knock on doors for the Republicans this year wearing a tu-tu, pasties, and a beanie with a propeller on top.

If they don't take me and my cause seriously, it's because they are closed minded fools! It shouldn't matter how you come off to people if the cause is good! (/liberal whine)

Drinking and smoking will be eliminated in all branches of the service, it's a threat to readiness.

The Pentagon and it's staff will still be around long after Rummy is gone from office.

So where's that reponse from the DoD?

Good parallel.

Make an abject fool of yourself, and then whine that people aren't taking you seriously.

It's not the reality, it's only the intent that counts..........didn't you know that??

Perhaps a General Wormer would say, "Going through life as a smoking, fat, drunk is no part of the military."

My Final Reply to ya on this matter. Something written that I think applies to ya. :>}

Tommy Rudyard Kipling

I WENT into a public-’ouse to get a pint o’ beer, The publican ’e up an’ sez, “We serve no red-coats here.” The girls be’ind the bar they laughed an’ giggled fit to die, I outs into the street again an’ to myself sez I:

O it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, go away”; But it’s “Thank you, Mister Atkins”, when the band begins to play,— The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play, O it’s “Thank you, Mister Atkins”, when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be, They gave a drunk civilian room, but ’adn’t none for me; They sent me to the gallery or round the music-’alls, But when it comes to fightin’, Lord! they’ll shove me in the stalls!

For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, wait outside”; But it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide,— The troopship’s on the tide, my boys, the troopship’s on the tide, O it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide.

Yes, makin’ mock o’ uniforms that guard you while you sleep Is cheaper than them uniforms, an’ they’re starvation cheap; An’ hustlin’ drunken soldiers when they’re goin’ large a bit Is five times better business than paradin’ in full kit.

Then it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, ’ow’s yer soul?” But it’s “Thin red line of ’eroes” when the drums begin to roll,— The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll, O it’s “Thin red line of ’eroes” when the drums begin to roll.

We aren’t no thin red ’eroes, nor we aren’t no blackguards too, But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you; An’ if sometimes our conduck isn’t all your fancy paints, Why, single men in barricks don’t grow into plaster saints;

While it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, fall be’ind”, But it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind,—

There’s trouble in the wind, my boys, there’s trouble in the wind, O it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind.

You talk o’ better food for us, an’ schools, an’ fires, an’ all: We’ll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational. Don’t mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face The Widow’s Uniform is not the soldier-man’s disgrace.

For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Chuck him out, the brute!” But it’s “Saviour of ’is country” when the guns begin to shoot; An’ it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ anything you please; An’ Tommy ain’t a bloomin’ fool—you bet that Tommy sees!

Good lord you're response 100 year old british poetry? It's 2006, time to grow up and learn the lessons of the past, instead of finding excuses on how rot your head and body.

Yeah them Russian soldiers and vodka did I great job in Afghanistan too. Maybe we should promote smoking and drinking for olympic teams to go along with an Army of addicts.

He's not suffering PTSD because of smoking. Even the liberal rag you linked to didn't make that jump in logic.

Yes, it applies to many on this thread. But it appears no lesson was learned. Thanks anyway for trying.

Chicken or egg. Nicotine is self medication, go take a trip to the local nuthouse and see how many smoke.

The DoD doesn't give a crap about civilian excuse making either.

No smoking, don't like it...don't join.

And you know oh-so-much about the military, because of what? Your idolatation of the anti-military site you're promoting? Please forgive me if I prefer to take the word of the real troops, many of whom are my family. You civilian pretty boys can go suck eggs. I see you learned absolutely nothing from post 289. Did you have difficulty understanding it? Or do you just firmly believe that the troops are too stupid to know that you're supporting them with your negative attitude toward who they are?
