The Hobbit Hole XXX - Then world behind and home ahead...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/28/2006 10:14:11 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Then world behind and home ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Meant to say...on mine, I can disable the stick through Windows - I just go to the Control Panel and to Mouse, and there's a Device Settings tab that lets me disable the touchpad or pointing stick or both. That's more common than not, but if yours is older...

Morning would be a good time to do that :~) You'd probably have to run it out a window. We don't have any outside power either, except in the barn.

We've got a lot of cord for it. Enough to reach most places in your yard.

If you hate messing with gas engines, a gas one might be a headache. They're real finicky on starting. I cuss a lot when I run mine.

Hm...actually, now I think about it, the plug in the kitchen is right next to the window. That'd work.

And yeah, another gas engine isn't something I'd like to deal with if I can avoid it. ;-) I'll save the cussing for more important stuff. Errr...something.

heh, good one, back from dinner, how did the cubs do? They had a golf game on the TV at the 54th Street Grill.

Several neighbors have them, there is considerably more time spent tinkering and cussing when using them that actual weed whacking. Don't know if it's them or just the nature of the beast.

The Cubs squeaked out a 15-11 win over the White Sox.

the vet said that a splash of tomato juice in with the dog's food was good for the dog and would help prevent the yellow spots on the lawn.

My bad and that vet must have needed business. I just googled up "dog health +tomato juice" and there were several cautionary articles about altering a dog's pH output and possibly causing bladder infections, stones, etc. A more enviromentally friendly approach was to water the area and then sprinkle about a tablespoon of sugar over the area to feed the soil microbes. Our across the street neighbor's puppy used to get out and sprinkle our yard. She must have gotten four different places, because that's how many yellow spots we had. I just kept watering the areas, and now they're growing grass again.

Stihl's are reliable and easy startin'... never had a problem with mine... yes, they're a little more pricey, but seriesly werth the muhney... seriesly... I gotta blade attachment fer mine that can take down 4" diameter brush... bigger if'n I feel froggy...

messed around with cheap ones fer a looooooong time... I'll never go back...

Good tip. They ought to make a good one.

Mines a Craftsman... and it's not bad, but it's a little frustrating trying to figure out exactly what it wants sometimes... especially trying to start it hot.

Becky also tells me they make a light duty cordless rechargeable that might do just fine for you.

I had a Black and Decker cordless at the house. Worked pretty well, though it ran out of steam fairly quickly. Still, it was light and quick to recharge, so I liked it...I'd just have to do things in bits if I had a lot to do.

Or do you mean Stihl makes one?

Mmm...that could be nice...
