The Hobbit Hole XXX - Then world behind and home ahead...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/28/2006 10:14:11 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Then world behind and home ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Is "Summer Lily" a version of ~white~? Just askin'.

Also just askin'. Is it too soon to take up bulbs like gladiolas and other stuff that either has already bloomed or is definitely not going to bloom?

Can I just store 'em in the garage?

And one more...can I do that with caladium and elephant ear?

I'm fixin' to head out into the yard. There's a lot of plants that won't be here this afternoon. We're already looking at ~voluntary~ water restrictions. Mandatory can't be too far behind.

Congrats on your honest precious! Summer Lily sounds nice, what color does the name refer too?

It's a light-ish orange with yellow undertones....it looks good against my towel rack and blue towels.

I'm debating whether to paint the chair rail with that purple or just leave it white.

As for the bulbs, I'd wait until all the top growth has died off. If the plants still have leaves, they're making food for blooming next season.

Yes, you can lift caldium and elephant ear.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know a nice simple web page that talks about what bulbs you plant in the fall in various parts of the country? I want to start planning my garden :-D

Ugh, got to get moving. I have to go to the florist, the cake supply store, tanning parlor, bank... and be back in time to get my brother to work. He's working til 11 and then I get to pick him up. I'm on brothersitting detail this weekend as my parents are taking my baby sister off to school and then driving to Buffalo to spend a day and buy champagne.

Generally speaking, stuff that blooms in the spring (daffodils, crocus for example) you plant in the fall. Summer blooming stuff, you plant in the spring. Usually, the garden stores will stock the stuff at the appropriate time.

I'll have to look into websites.

Mornin'.

We're giving the house some needed attention today and braving the stores for some back-to-school shopping for the girls. :-D

Yup, raining in St. Joe and Emporia so you're good to go. We just got back from gypsygirl's constitutional. She got a long walk this morning. We saw several homes undergoing renovation and front porch rebuilding. Gypsygirl is settling down for her post walk nap.

Ungh...I spent the later portion of the night dreaming that I was supposed to go to Seattle to install some software, but was stalling. I stopped by here on my way up from work, and there were two little kids in my house - apparently they'd crawled through the gate and come in. There was a boy about four and a girl who was maybe two or so. Cute kids. While I was playing with 'em and trying to figure out where they were from, first the gal from work showed up and started kinda rearranging my decorating, and then the kids' Dad showed up in a panic. While I was getting their coats on, the other gal ended up in a long discussion with their Dad. Apparently he ran a pizza place that wasn't doing well. She advised him to switch to chocolate chip cookies. He was all happy when he left with the kids.

I have no explanation for that.

Back from thewalk.

Woo Hoo! Gots fresh squash fer the weekend. Also, the potted 'maters have little ones coming. I brought them inside to see if they'll eventually get to eatin' state.

Time to start on the bathroom.

That's a remarkably complex and coherent plot. My dreams never have a beginning middle and end that make sense. :~) Good morning :~D

Odd dream. As OT said, it does sound like a jumping off point for a Nano plot!

Enjoyed meeting Loretta, Katie's Mom, and Charlotte, Therese's mom. Loretta will get me her oldest son's address so winmag can send him a knife.

All the girls in Clare's apt. are really nice. There are six, so far, and one more was expected, but hadn't shown up yet. There are 3 bedrooms. The largest has two sets of bunks, the two smaller ones have one set each. Clare wanted a bottom bunk, and the only one still left was in the smallest of the bedrooms. She may end up being in there by herself, which is just fine with her. Loretta and Katie went with Clare and me to WalMart Thursday night to do some shopping, and we ended up with 3 carts of stuff. We got it all into the rental car, though! That was a HUGH trunk for such a small car!

Clare said she and their girls stayed up VEY late Thursday night just talking and getting to know one another; she said it was a lot of fun, and the girls seem to be getting along nicely.

Flying home was a bit of a challenge. First, I was late leaving Naples, and got on I-75 to head for the airport and it was a parking lot! Must have been an accident up ahead cause it took me 20 mins. to go 5 miles. I'd planned to drop the car off at 4, in plenty of time for my 5pm flight. I didn't even get to the car return place until 4:20, and the guy was nice enough to drive me over to the terminal so I wouldn't have to spend the time walking. Got there JUST in time to check the suitcase, then went to the gate. They were beginning to board, but the TSA was there checking bags as folks got on the plane. They took my two little tubes of toothpaste and my MASCARA! I'm glad it was an old one, and needed replacing anyway. So we were 15 min. or so late leaving Ft. Myers, and got to JFK with about 45 mins before the connecting flight. Then, because of all the delays during the day, they said OUR flight would be delayed leaving for an hour and a half. So I took them at their word, and went to get something to eat. There was a board just outside the restaurant that showed the flight info, and I was halfway through my supper when I looked up and saw that my flight was BOARDING! I dumped the food, and ran for the gate, tossing the half full bottle of water in the trash. We got all ready to go and started taxiing, when the pilot came on and said even though we were in line, there were 60 planes ahead of us, and it would STILL be an hour and a half before we took off. Thankfully, the pilot let us use cell phones to call and let folks picking us up in Boston know about the delay again, after everyone had called earlier to tell them that we had boarded. So anyway, JetBlue has little tv screens at each seat, with DirectTV, so I just watched TV, and then about an hour later, the pilot tells us we're fixing to go, cause we're 4th in line! Having that TV was terrific; the time seemed to fly! So anyway, I didn't get home until almost 1 but said a prayer of Thanks for getting home safely, then I just crashed and slept like a LOG for 8 hours! Had to get up before 10 cause a friend was coming to buy some of Joseph's books from last year for her son.

We may have to go buy a new washer cause our spin cycle died. SirKit's gonna do diagnostics on it this afternoon.

So how do you like being such a materialistic feminist? ;o)

The main thing I remember is that I didn't want to go to Seattle, so I was happy for even the most bizarre distractions.

Heh...Charlotte. Had to think for a minute on who that was. I've never called her that as I've known her since I was little, and all of such people are still "Mrs." to me. ;-)

Sounds like a nice little setup - they get some privacy, but have almost like a little family group to hang out with. Should make adjusting to college life a lot easier!

What a nightmare on the trip home! But at least it was all just hassle and nothing more.

I was trying to keep from waking up, I think, because in my mind, when I did, I'd have to drive to Seattle. It was a major relief when I woke up all the way and realized I didn't hafta.

*phew*

Buffalo is the closest real town in New York to where my sister is going to college (she's in upper western PA). PA sells liquor and wine only through state stores, which have horrible, horrible selection and charge 25% more. So since my folks are already most of the way there they decided to make a weekend of it and bring back champagne.
