WASHINGTON, May 31 After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.
Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

Boating on the Great Lakes is far different from boating on most fresh water. And each lake has it's own personality. To know one is not to know them all.
Of them all Erie is the most dangerous overall. It is the most shallow and when a storm blows in the waves are something that you want to observe from the safety of the shore.

"I think the thing with humidity is, evapouration is a lot slower, thus sweating won't cool you down." It's nice that you can figure that out with a mental exercise.
How about this mental picture? It's so hot, that when the girls take their clothes off you don't care!
That's pretty revoltin' hot!

I visited the rail and ship museums in Duluth back in the 1980s and it was BEAUTIFUL. The drive up from St. Paul was gorgeous and Lake Superior was absolutely breathtaking. Coming from the shores of the great Pacific, I had this weird moment where I was looking across a seemingly limitless expanse of water, with little 12" waves tickling the shoreline, and trying to get my brain around the fact that it's a LAKE. In my world, if you can't see all the way across -- that's the OCEAN, man. So, looking at this not-ocean that looks for all the world like and ocean -- but isn't was a really odd experience.

DEAN: Oh, yeah. Say hello to Mr. Kim, Pepe.
PEPE: (Dean in falsetto) Hola, Senor Keem.
KIM: (childlike wave) Herro, Peepee! How you rike show?
PEEPEE: Ees good.
KIM: Tank you beddy much. You so porite. (addressing Dean) Now you two been busy ratery. You go on load?
DEAN: There's been a bit of travelling. As I'm sure you know, Kim, we've got elections coming up this fall.
KIM: Uh huh, uh huh.
DEAN: And there's so much going on with immigration, and all of the right-wing propaganda out there. We had to step things up and work overtime--well, and we're still working--to get the better solutions, the Democrat plan, out there.
(one "whoo" from audience)
DEAN: I think most Americans can see that we're at critical mass here, and we need a change.
(beeg apprause)
DEAN: (through apprause) America deserves better, they really do!

It's nice that you can figure that out with a mental exercise. I'll take that as a compliment...
How about this mental picture? It's so hot, that when the girls take their clothes off you don't care!
I suppose it's a Laffer Curve response - it gets so hot that the girls take their clothes off so I won't care about the heat, but if it gets too hot, I won't care that the girls have taken their clothes off!!

Over here.
Oh, wow, man. A sock puppet. Cool.
Yeah, cool. Fine. Hey, gimme a light, will ya?
Oh, yeah, like no problem, eh. Here. Borrow my lighter, man.
[glowering] A-hem.
Wha...? Oh, yeah. [laughs nervously] Like, you don't have any arms. Sorry, man. No offense.
Yeah, yeah. Okay. Just light me up. Uh, the cigar, I mean.

When the temp hits about 115 to 120 with full humidity you aren't interested in much of anything except finding a shady spot where you can braze in peace.

KIM: Ok, Howa Dean. You speak dat, bludda. We change geeyuh fo minute, ok? Kim an audience wan to know: How you hook up wit Peepee?
DEAN: Pepe came to me, uh--it's really a rather funny story. Back in 2004 during the presidential campaign, I did a rally down in Miami. Now, later on, we're going back to the hotel--and of course I've got staff all around me--and I see this little guy just lying there in the lobby. He looked so cute and so pathetic, I had to help him out.
KIM: You hairp him out?
DEAN: Yeah. He won me over right away, and we've never been apart since.
("aww"s from audience)
KIM: Beddy touching, Howa Dean. Now, Kim muss ass dis: You do know Peepee no reer, ok?
DEAN: (confused) What, what do you mean? Of course he's real! Look at him!
PEEPEE: (in broken voice) Si, ees--ees tloo, Senor Keem.
KIM: No, Howa Dean. Kim solly but Peepee juss sock puppet. You do boice.
DEAN: Just look! (pushes puppet closer to Kim) He's real!
