WASHINGTON, May 31 After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.
Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

I'm thinking of restocking my Saiga-12
I'd like to put a laser and a tactical flashlight in the fore-end.
any recommendations about good (ie: blindingly bright) tactical flashlights?

There's a whole bunch of SureFire lights that would work well.

Tactical flashlight? There are several. Depends on what your budget is.
I've got a little Brinkman I picked up from Wal-Mart. Bright little thing. Around $20.

So, bag the projcetor, get a DLP digital projector/DVD rig powerful enough to hit a full-sized theater screen with solid, edge-to-edge image brilliance; tie that into the Dolby 7.1 surround sound processor, out the amps to the speaker system and -- WHAM -- the audience is THERE. Forget "going to see" a movie; we're talkin' "going to live" a movie.
You mean THAT kind of theater experience, right?
I've got a local independent that I could talk to about that kind of upgrade to his complex. Maybe I swing him the capital in return for stock in the enterprise. It's a great complex with excellent location and foot traffic.
[relays POP as the big generator jumps on-line]
If the idea rocks, I've got a couple of others to bolster the venue, as well. I'd like to get a flat-floored theater type area set up as a smoke/alk-free 17+ dance club. NOT A RAP DIVE! A real, trance/techno/pop dance club with lights, DJ stage, video screens, soda/snack bar, acoustically-damped lounge areas and ten or twelve human mountains to maintain civil behavior.
I don't have alotta cash burning a hole in my pocket, but I've got lots of equity in my house that's just idling, ad I believe that it is the apex of poor stewardship to let money sit on its dregs.

Hey!
I pinged you here because I didn't think the FReepers on the Middle East thread needed to read about it.
This is the spawn of the undead thread, we can chat here.
:-)
Yes, we've been sailing a few times, but right now we only have Sundays off, so we don't have much time to fit it in.
We have one more Monday to work, and then we go back to the normal schedule of being off Sunday and Monday.
How's your summer going?
To: fanfan
Ah, I guess I didn't know about the 'undead thread'!
Sunday/Monday weekend is an odd combo. Do you dock at a marina, or do you have to trailer it, step mast, rig sails.... which can be time consuming.
I've been out paddling a few times, but am still altering the seat in my kayak. (My left leg always falls asleep!)
I'm looking for a job now, and just finished my resume. I won't be finishing my degree, since I won't be able to finish my research/thesis before my funding is up. My project changed on me once a while ago, and I could work on another project with a different prof. but I think its time to start working. Actually I'm excited for it, well, kind of nervous too!

In our backyard, on the river.

That's gotta be tough in a kayak!

Man, that sucks.
Joining the workforce, eh? Are you going to do that here, or go back home?

Ah, what do you sell?

I'm Jealous!!
That's gotta be tough in a kayak!
Its annoying on shorter trips, and horrible on longer ones. I can move my leg out of the thigh brace, and it will go away. If it is choppy, this can get interesting. I think its more of a boat design issue than anything, my deck is fairly low. Hopefully my new seat mods will make it better.
Man, that sucks.
Actually, rather relieved. My project had changed on me once, and had to outsource lots of testing which I waited on forever. I'm ready, and looking forward to start working.
Are you going to do that here, or go back home?
I want to go to Alaska pretty bad, so thats where I'm focusing primarily. People are hiring quite a few engineers in AB, so I'll send my resume around. I like Calgary (close to mountains) and people are hiring there, and Ft. McMurray (oilsands) is hiring like crazy & pays well. The downside there, is it is really expensive to live there.

The downside there, is it is really expensive to live there. Fort McMurray isn't expensive, it's "if you have to ask the price you can't afford it"!
A friend of mine recently moved from Fort McMurray. They sold their townhouse, and had enough money from that to build a custom log home.
Incoming.

Welcome to the Undead Thread, Yank. It's also known as the Flying Castle. The kitchens and bars are open 24/7, and so are the work-out areas.
If you decide to swim in the moat, remember to give way to the pleisiosaur...and if you choose to explore the Lower Levels, take a guide with you. We can't always predict the behavior of the zombies...and the walls and halls have a tendency to er..shift.
Otherwise, make yourself at home!

"I pinged you here because I didn't think the FReepers on the Middle East thread needed to read about it. This is the spawn of the undead thread, we can chat here." What! You think we have nothing better to do than to be bystanders to a discussion about sailing and kayaking?
