WASHINGTON, May 31 After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.
Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

Yes, but the wife was here this last weekend and we had a great time. We went to the Miller Brewery Tour, I made my Pilgrimage to The Holy Lands (Lambeau Field in Green Bay) and took a great river/lake cruise where we got to watch the Air Expo (featuring the Thunderbirds). A lot of fun.
Now I am doubly homesick, tho :(

I would be surprised if you needed cable, Sion. You seem like a doer, no a watcher. Do you like watching TV? Well, it does seem like I am always "doing," sigh. Running 5 ping lists on FR, for example.
What is a 'fan dance'?

We all piled into the Suburban and headed out to watch the lightning, too. Awesome stuff!

I didn't make the brewery tour, but then, I wasn't drinking in those days. I've always wanted to see the Air Expo...now I'm jealous...:o|
Homesick for the missus? *hugs*

Thanks :)
The Air Expo was really cool. I have seen a lot of air shows, but never from this vantage point. At one time we had an F-18 doing slow-mo work and he was so close to use we could see the pilot's face through the cockpit!
My wife doesn't drink and I gallantly did NOT drink her beers ;) But it is pretty neat to see the massive distribution system and the initial stages of a thousand bottles of beer.

I'm having a hard time keeping up with the Canada one.
I can't imagine 5!

I love that stuff.
Walking in the rain is my favorite.

Do you get the feeling we are all being tested in some way?
To: freedumb2003
If I ever get to that part of the country again, I'll check out the Air Expo. I've seen it on TV, and thought it was awesome. I seem always to live around air force bases, so I get to see the T-birds as often as they train!

We have a "Folklife Festival" here in Seattle (our Memorial Day weekend, end of May) that features a lot of, um, ethnic music, dance and art. The goodwife and I have been regular attendees, volunteers and performers (Highland pipes, Celtic harp, and songs in Scots Gaelic) since 1983, and wouldn't miss the event for the world.
All this by way of saying we've seen and heard some pretty neat stuff from all over over the years, and the Oriental (Korean, memory says) fan dances are among them. Amazing.

I like tolisten to rain on the roof, but because of arthritis, I don'tlike rain... The first house (cabin) the goodwife and I owned had a flat roof (no attic) in an area that sometimes got really heavy downpours. As in, it sometimes got so loud that one simply could not conduct a conversation.
I like to listen to rain on the roof....

Maybe it's just the summer doldrums. Everyone's too hot to do much besides stare blankly at the screen. I know I'm having some difficulty putting a coherent sentence together!

The sound of rain is nice though.

Here it's not hot -- I don't even have the fan on (we don't have A/C), and I tend to start melting down when we pass 75F.
OTOH we have a heat wave coming, likely to reach 90F or even higher (relatively low humidity). Don't think I'll die, but I won't be happy. Low 40s, cool, foggy and misty -- that is almost heaven! (Except that it is also ideal for moss growth...)

Ethnic (Highland pipes, Celtic harp, and songs in Scots Gaelic)?
In Seattle?
The fan dance is mesmerizing.

I wouldn't mind a blast of low 40's right now. My ac just switched on ... 9:30 p.m. and it's over 80 *inside*.
I think I'll go to bed under a fan now!
