WASHINGTON, May 31 — After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.

I know. It worked.

I read it and went, "Huh?", then shrugged it off and just let my subconscious run a search on it for a few minutes.

All of a sudden -- BAM!! -- the search result came back and I cracked up.

I had a Prof -- a Physics PhD out of MIT -- that taught me that trick; it REALLY works. Review the elements of the question clearly so that it is thoroughly understood, then just go do something else; play raquetball, take a nap, post on FR. All the while, your subconscious mind will be at work on the question, and when it gets a result, it'll route it straight into the foreground of your conscious mind, like, BING! "You've got mail!" Just be ready with a pen and paper when the answer comes back.

The governing criteria are that you have to clarify the question, and you must have previously studied the material that will allow you to formulate an answer. Your brain's good, but it's not likely going to conjure up the derivation of the Schröedinger wave equation if you've never seen it before.
