I know what you mean. I got married in 1989. Where does the time go? :)
I missed the visitor, which is probably for the best. What is it about some people? They simply cannot or will not discuss differences of opinion without coming all unglued.
Ain't that the truth!
Maybe Kat's "wardrobe malfunction" wasn't accidental? ;)
Simon's apology was interesting (and misplaced)....
Sorry :)
Sounds totally beautiful.
I like the song, but I'm not sure it would work for AI. It's a story song that wouldn't fit in the short timeframe the contestants have available to them. The contestants need something that makes an impact in about 90 seconds.
The 40 top pop songs of 1976 were:
1. Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry
2. December 1963 (Oh What A Night) - Four Seasons
3. Shake Your Booty - KC and The Sunshine Band
4. You Should Be Dancin' - Bee Gees
5. You'll Never Find - Lou Rawls
6. Rock N Me - Steve Miller Band
7. Sara Smile - Hall and Oates
8. Summer - War
9. Take The Money and Run - Steve Miller Band
10. Turn The Beat Around - Vicki Sue Robinson
11. Tear The Roof Off The Sucker - Parliament
12. I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Creedence Clearwater Revival
13. Love Hangover - Diana Ross
14. Wake Up Everybody - Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes
15. Right Back Where We Started From - Maxine Nightingale
16. Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel - Tavares
17. You Sexy Thing - Hot Chocolate
18. Sing-A-Song - Earth, Wind and Fire
19. The Rubberband Man - the Spinners
20. Baby I Love Your Way - Peter Frampton
21. Love To Love You Baby - Donna Summer
22. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out - Bruce Springsteen
23. Takin It To The Streets - Doobie Brothers
24. You're My Best Friend - Queen
25. This Masquerade - George Benson
26. Tonight's The Night - Rod Stewart
27. Sing A Song - Earth, Wind and Fire
28. More Than A Feeling - Boston
29. Slow Ride - Foghat
30. Beth - Kiss
31. More, More, More - Andrea True Connection
32. Shower The People - James Taylor
33. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
34. (Don't Fear) The Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
35. A Fifth Of Beethoven - Walter Murphy
36. Saturday Night - Bay City Rollers
37. The Boys Are Back In Town - Thin Lizzie
38. Golden Years - David Bowie
39. Times of Your Life - Paul Anka
40. Afternoon Delight - the Starland Vocal Band
There are several songs on that list I could see Taylor doing. I could easily see him doing numbers 2, 5, 10, 12, 20, 24, 26, and 29.
The question is what songs has AI obtained rights to. I would love to see Taylor do Rod Stewart's 'Tonight's The Night.' Sexy song and it's perfect for Taylor's voice. But Stewart didn't let them do any of his material during Rod Stewart night, only the old standards he's been recording recently.
I think Taylor would do a great rendition of 'Heard It Through The Grapevine,' not the Creedence Clearwater Revival version, but the Marvin Gaye version.
>>>A lot of people believe the producers have manipulated performances by messing with the sound system and some other production tricks. If they are also manipulating the contestants into not going with their preferred song choices, I hope they get sued eventually.<<<
They can be sued, of course, but I doubt if the complainant would win, because the manipulation is so crafty and known only to the insider producers. It would be a hard case to prove.
But if someone sues and wins, it could ruin the careers of the two Simons; the Randy, the Paula, the Seacrest and others. It would be like the $64,000 Question scandal of the olden days.
Someone suggested on Scarborough that the FCC shoud crack down on AI and its producers and give them a hefty fine (if the public is being manipulated). Joe's expert said the FCC can't do a thing because the production company is British??? Maybe some legal-type person on here can clear that up.
True. It WOULD be a hard case to prove unless it was possible to catch someone redhanded messing with the sound system just before a contestant went on the air, or something equally nasty like that.
You're so right, misterrob. It is not a beauty contest.
I've been thinking of all the oldtime singers who were really homely (Elliott is not. He's an average-looking guy.) Just naming some of the oldtimers made me smile--Mickey Rooney! Jimmy Durante! Louis Armstrong! Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormet! Sammy Davis Jr.! Danny Kaye! Tex Beneke! And more recently--Mick Jagger; all of the Beatles; and Lyle Lovett.
And when you get right down to it, Randy, Paula, and Simon ain't all that in the looks department.
What do looks have to do with being a wonderful singer and entertainer? With being an American Idol?
Heard it through the grapevine has been done too much. I think he'd be better off with the Rod Stewart one (but as you pointed out, will he let them use his material) or Seeger's - Night Moves. I could really see him doing that one.
Taylor does "On The Road Again" and he has got the momentum his way.
There's another song from 1976 that wasn't on my list, "All By Myself." I love that song and I think Taylor could do a very good job with it.
I love that song. I wish we knew what songs AI has rights to. Then we really could have some fun coming up with ideas.
How about "Let's just kiss and say goodbye" - The Manhattans
Even when AI has the rights, they can poopcan a singer's choice, as they did Taylor this past week.
How about "2 out of 3" by Meatloaf?
Taylor, Elliott or Chris?
Yeah, that is a GOOD one!
Trying to find something off the charts now is a bit rough.
You know, I never realized how many crummy songs there were from 1976. No wonder I followed a 50's - 60's band for about 15 years! LOL I was born too late. :(
Done. Perfect.
