I didn't realize that song was written in 1933! I'm only familiar with the Otis Redding version.
I have to imagine that song with it's slow build and ending with Taylor doing Otis' "You got-ta, got-ta, got-ta try a little tenderness!" would have blown the roof off.
We didn't even see Bo's audition. He was always seen as Constantine's inferior. Carrie was pimped WIRE TO WIRE.
Chris could fill in for Chad Kroeger on an album and no one would notice it.
I think so too. Isn't this the 2nd time recently Taylor wanted to do a song and for some reason it turned out he couldn't do his first choice?
That's the word on the street. Supposedly during country week he wanted to sing a Hank Williams Jr. song and it was scrapped.
Well, it's at least the 3rd, because he changed during Queen week, too. They showed him practicing with Queen one song then they showed him going in to another practice and said, "Change of plans. I'm going to be singing this..."
I PRAY the contestants were given more choices then just the #1's!!! That or we get to hear Taylor sing "Convoy" or "Disco Duck".
A lot of people believe the producers have manipulated performances by messing with the sound system and some other production tricks. If they are also manipulating the contestants into not going with their preferred song choices, I hope they get sued eventually.
Hey, very cool! Thanks so much RK. I can never have enough music-related links. (FYI: The reason I find the history of a song so quickly is because I discovered where to look on the ASCAP site for the songwriters. That lets me search in Google by title and songwriters, which usually turns up at least one result with the history of the song.)
I kind of laugh when I see all these posts about E going in to the dentist to have a "quick fix" done on his teeth. What he has to do to "fix" his teeth is get his palate cracked and expand his upper jaw. You can't do that in one visit to the cosmetic dentist. His "smile" is too narrow. There's really nothing wrong with his "teeth", per se.
Of course, all that work might change the sound of his tone. It happened to Mr. StrictTime....
Taylor doing "50 Ways" could actually be fun doing it his way.
He's aware of it. He might do some caps or some other cosmetic stuff but you won't see him going a big overhaul.
It's looking to me that when Paris leaves, the fan bases of the others are equal enough that performance is actually going to decide the contest. Nobody better be resting on their laurels from here on out.

I think you have spent way too much time thinking about this show. Get up & move away from the keyboard....walk outside....and breathe.
1. Chris: He has been the most consistent, but Simon has been dead on correct about his being a one-trick pony. Seems very sincere, which will serve him well, but does an individual rocker really make it big in this day and age?
2. Elliott: Very pure voice, lots of range, but I think he ends up being a niche performer as either a singer of standards or a jazz singer. Has been in a good groove over the last three weeks and over that time may have been the best overall.
3. Paris: Very talented, and because she is young, I think there is no question she has the best long term potential. She has some stage presence, but she will become a much more polished performer over the long term.
4. Taylor: After the auditions, he was somebody I really hoped would make it through the Hollywood pare down, which he did. Unfortunately, he has been inconsistent and I think his song choice has been poor. He has not taken full advantage of the richness of his voice and when he tries to liven things up (Taylor being Taylor), it quite frankly is distracting.
5. Katherine McPhee: Looks in her favor, nice voice, but again, Simon was dead on correct with his critique of performance, as was Randy Jackson. They were not overly critical of her. Her performance reminded me of one you might see at a high school pop show. All in all, a good bunch of singers, but if I had to choose one who will make a bunch of albums and be thought highly of over the long term, it would be Paris because she has room to grow and is the most versatile. One other critique I would add is that I think this group of singers has done the absolute worst job of picking songs to suit their talents. Really abysmal, save for the week where standards were sung.
I would think David Foster's opinion ("Katharine has a great future" if memory serves) should count for a lot.
I think all three judges have a hard time not playing the original artists' version in their head while evaluating the person in front of them. I think the look on Katharine's face said it all when Simon told her she wasn't Whitney Houston. She knows she's not, nor was she trying to be. Sometimes we need to remind the judges to limit their comments to something constructive for the contestant that can actually help them improve their future performances.

I wish people would just get over Elliots teeth. When has it ever been said this is a beauty contest. How shallow can you be.

Hey! I have NEVER said that I have a problem with his teeth. I'm very sympathetic to his situation. I was stating that there is very little he can do about it until after the competition. Sheesh!
