And now for tonights Dinklemeyer toon.
This cartoon is a show of the strips early days. I hadnt fully created the world I wanted to yet, so I had to experiment with new ideas. In this one, I introduced Karen, a hot popular girl whom Freddy has a crush on. But he is too afraid to talk to her, and she does not notice him at all.
This showed something I havent tried much in my FReeptoons: drawing attractive women is an interesting challenge for an artist (especially a cartoonist). Its something that I always like to try. Drawing a babe is a challenge because it has to be absolutely perfect: one thing wrong or misdrawn, and the whole drawing looks awful and deformed. Its a very precise thing to do.
Unfortunately, while it was a good idea on paper, it never really came together right. Karen makes one other appearance later on, and then she vanishes from the strip forever. Despite the promise it showed, I just couldnt think of anything to do with the idea. This is not the first time that will happen.
Same for me. I just cannot get into it either.
I have tried, though.
Ah, who needs 'em?
Wow. Once the picture of Lucy Lawless was up there, there was no going back. It would be a big one.
I'm wondering if your legs would make a discussion topic. If they are long and elegant. I don't think mine would. They are pretty much ordinary.
I guess it's never too early to add this to the archives. So, uh...I guess I will, then.
Ah I am still here. lol just not much going on.
Aw, aren't you sweet. ;-P Tell me how you come up with your ideas; I used to doodle, but my stuff was never funny...Just random poses, pretty much.
Yeah, it's a little boring around here tonight.
I know. Shame Yahoo does not work. I would need to reinstall windows.
Well, I guess my ideas really just come to me. With these FReeptoons, I start out with something going on with the news...if a person says something controversial, or something happens, or whatever. Then you try and structure a three-panel ridiculing of it in your mind. Make sure the last panel has at least a little bit of a punchline. Try to incorporate the characters (shark and donkey).
AFter you write it in your mind, then you can go on to drawing it. Often, I don't even have the strip fully developed until I start working on it, though. It sort of changes and adapts with time. I draw one panel per day, sometimes two.
Ouch.
I have a wierd idea for a cartoon, but I don't think I could draw it over three panels...My people never look the same twice!
Yeah, I used to have that problem, as you can tell by the DInklemeyers. If you keep at it, eventually that stops. What is your weird idea?
I dunno...Something about that fatwa banning nudity...I'm fiddling with it in Paint, would you take a look at it for me? I'll freepmail you the URL...
ok, then.
Is this going to be an X-rated pic?
No no no! I just don't want to hijack your thread- You probably get a lot of people saying Hey, look what I drew...
No, actually, believe it or not, I don't hear that too often. I think you and Paul_Denton are the only ones. I enjoy looking at other peoples' art.
The I hear most often is, "Hey, I've seen your cartoons before. Your Geraldo one was the best." And I do get the occasional "Don't quit your day job" comments.
For the most part, people seem to like my stuff. I might have a higher compliment rate than most people.
