We can more easily surf cable to watch the best of the worst, in far more comfortable surroundings, with our favorite snacks just a few steps away.It makes a great party venue, too! You can MST3K any movie you'd like with a group of friends!

I certainly expect this film to win Best Picture - at the Golden Globes, and the Oscars too. But that says more about those institutions than it does about anything else.
It will be impossible to separate the "politics" of this film from whatever other merits it has. Apparently, D. W. Griffith's Birth of a Nation and the Leni Reifenstahl film Triumph of the Will were wonderful cinematic "technical" achievements, but as they were sympathetic to the KKK and the Nazis respectively it's almost impossible to give either any praise without feeling "creepy."
I'll assume the present film is wonderfully scripted, acted, and filmed. But it's just not my cup of tea at all. I assume that's true of most people. Be prepared to be criticized as stupid red-state hicks, as the leftist elite takes the (probable) lack of popularity of this film as a badge of elitist pride.

Golden Globe elites went into plebian parinirvana.....
Plebian parinirvana? I'm going to have to look in Webster's for that one. It doesn't sound good.

Howls, Bruce. Howls of derisive laughter.
Rule 1 is applicable not just at the University of Wallamaroo, but throughout the human race.
And the astounding arrogance that propels a Westerner to write a book called "Memoirs of a Geisha." Unbelievable.

Using logic.. since queers are 25% of the population it should have done about 25 million by now. I wonder is the studios will see that if you make a movie for 5% or less of the population it just will not draw the dollars.
Idiots

I was thinking about this the other night when I wanted to see a movie with my girlfriend. She refuses to watch movies that are dominated by computer-generated special effects. We have already seen "I Walk The Line." What does that leave us?

I just went over to the
IMDB to see
what they said about "BrokeBackside Mountain" and it got a very high rating. Looks like it's being swayed by the polesmokers.
I've put my own comment in there and we'll see if it makes it up there. I'll bet they delete it.
Total manipulation.

It's also the perfect explanation for why "Shakespeare in Love" won seven Oscars in 1999 (including "Best Picture"), beating out the superior films "Elizabeth" and "Saving Private Ryan".
"Shakespeare in Love" was all about actors, producers, and writers -- so when the actors, producers, and writers of the Academy of Motion Pictures voted on what they thought was the best film, well... Narcissism won out.

I went to see this movie yesterday. It was just about sold out, but it was a small theater in a multiplex. I was somewhat disappointed with the film. Some fantastic cinematography, a smashing performance by Heath Ledger, but believe it or not, rather a cliched, schlocky love story, plus an uninspired screenplay, which was co-written by Larry McMurtry. Really, the best thing about it is Heath Ledger, who will certainly be nominated for an Oscar, and I guess it's between him and Phillip Seymour Hoffman for Capote. I think I'd go with Ledger.
I think some of the great reviews have as much to do with the perceived "bravery" of making a movie like this, which isn't fair to the public. It should be judged as a film - not a gay film - or a groundbreaking film. It is being touted as the first gay cowboy film, but in fact Midnight Cowboy could be seen as that, and Midnight Cowboy was a stronger film. I think it's a good film, not a great film. Not at the Best Picture Oscar level if you ask me, but worth seeing.

This lady has it all wrong...Brokeback Mountain is what America wants to see and will win all the Academy Awards.
After all, every man has a homosexual fantasy.
>>>Brokeback Mountain has netted a paltry $4.9 million in box office sales, nearly identical to Memoirs of a Geisha. Both movies have been out for about two weeks. King Kong has earned twenty times more in only eight days of apish reincarnation.
