That is true - Sinn Fein/IRA aren't good Catholics and Loyalist terror groups aren't good Protestants, but I don't think Lewis really cared - he left the province at a young age.

There were issues made because people wanted a side issue that could possibly take away from "The Passion" as a reflection of actual history.

"... liberties taken to 'sex-up' the film!" No sex in this film, unless you consider the husband and wife bantering of Mr. and Mrs. Beaver. (Yep, real beavers, chatting -- just tail-slapping sexy, I tell you!)

That may be too much for me to want to read of that kind of stuff. Did Marvel ever do a good comic book covering it like they did Pope John Paul 2?

Howya tulip!! I haven't read it at all, I have a rule about not seeing a film before I read a book - so I'll read the book first!

You find it's the case with a lot of famous figures who originaly hailed from NI, they have little time for the tribalism!

Doing fine, but I must go, 'Citizen Kane' is on the TV (at a shamefully late hour...), so I'll go watch it!
Goodnight everyone!

I thought there were lots of arguments over anti-Semitism in "The Passion," There were accusations a-plenty of anti-Semitism, but frankly, after having watched it (and I will note I too have a low tolerance for brutality) the accusations were totally off the wall and IMHO those making the accusations were without exception either deranged, deluded or dishonest.
For example (I know you haven't seen it), it wasn't a Jew who, just before he engaged in Jesus' scourging, exclaimed in Latin (I heard it), "Music-making time!"
I'm not going to revive those, ahem, "discussions." But when I see comments like this reviewer's invocation of "the arguments" (as if that were somehow neutral), he's introducing a bias from outside the context. It is so irrelevant, why mention it? Unless you want to prejudice your audience.
And might I add -- he found the arguments "troubling"? That gives weight to the "deranged, deluded or dishonest" (my words) arguments.
My humble guess is: this guy's an agnostic (or apostate) lib, and he's trying to undercut this move from within its, um, "natural audience."
