My goodness 'Face!
Would you let me know?
I'm not asking you to show me, just tell me...;-)

47 huh.... Not much use for it. I suppose we could make spoons or something out of it. Maybe if we can shine it up we can sell it off as trinkets or something. Maybe throw in some of those clear chunks of carbon or some of those beryllium-aluminium-silicate mixes. Oughta be sparkly if not particularly useful for anything.

It used to valuable in photography, but these days, everythings digital. Once you use what you need for electrical contacts and such, it hardly has any use at all.
Now,Iridium .... mmmm, Shiny!

"... some of those clear chunks of carbon ..." If we do that, I'd like to make sure it is at least isotopically pure. You'd be astonished at what crap people are willing to accept these days!
I suppose we could set up some of the weaker workers at the forges to growing the crystals. It's a bit of a slow process to get any decent size out of them. Hardly worth bothering with anything smaller than an acorn, seems like.

Yeah, argentium just doesn't have the same kick as modern LCD's do in photography. Especially with some of the seriously hi-res photos being taken with digital optics. Aurum still has it's uses as an anti-oxidation coating for electrical contacts.

Run it through one of the engines. We can set up a raw fusion tap with a magnetic bottle. Should burn all the impurities right out of it. You could decant the material directly into vaccuum for crystalization/cooling without introducing atmosphere to it. Should be 99.99999% pure carbon. Depending on how many feet of crystal you need, you just whack it off with a hammer when it is long enough. Opening the mag-bottle wider gets thicker pieces.
Small pieces you just toss back into the furnace.

Yeah, it's easy enough to work with; low temperature and all that. It's a little finicky about crystallizing though, you have to run it a little slow to prevent the wrong allotrope from forming.
That's why I thought it would be a good project for your "team." They seem to have a fascination for such little gewgaws, almost as if someone would think they had value.
Thank goodness we have the Aluminum OxyNitride for important things! Much easier and more practical to work with.

Sure! I was surfing one of the sites the other day, and found that my brother (on my mother's side) and I have common ancestors in the 1400's. He never searched, and I wasn't interested. And then I spent some time with his kids on Thanksgiving, so I began to look...*snort*

Okay - I gave in. I made an appointment to go to a doctor at the local clinic tonight (not the campus doctor). If I don't go, I don't know if I'll make it through lecturing tomorrow and doing the other things I that have to do for work this week.

He's my half-brother on my mother's side, but his ancestors meet up with mine on my father's side.
Think of it as a "V" -- my brother and I are the two top points, and our lines meet at the bottom.
