The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Frog, you too with the pyrantel pamoate? For tapes?

I've never heard the deal about double dosing it for tapes either, I just use it as a regular wormer in combination with ivermectin because I'd heard they were a good combo. If you look at the active ingredients in Rotectin 1 & 2, you'll see the same thing, only buying them generic is MUCH cheaper. You can sometimes get the generic ivermectin for as little as 2.99 a dose. It all adds up. I don't do fecal testing unless I think I've got a problem. All of them are fat as mud and nobody seems to have an itchy butt so I figure I'm ok. Everybody's got their own "system" I guess.

...I wouldn't do it with this foal. Too easy for him to hurt his neck, or hang it up on something...

I wouldn't do it either. A friend of mine left a halter on a young colt in the pasture and he broke his neck when he hung it in a power pole guywire while scratching. He was a really nice colt and it was really sad.

Awwww, the kitties are so cute! Isn't it funny the way they first react to a new place. They're all crouched down low and goosey, ready to flip out at the slighest thing. Looks like they had a good first adventure and you got all your stray cobwebs cleaned out to boot. ;o)

It looks like I might have the theater release of each movie on one disk and then a special features disk for each one that has kind of "making of" stuff, "director's vision", that kind of stuff. I don't think I have the extended version of the movie with all the extra good stuff that I think I saw y'all talking about over on HH.

The extended versions, each movie is four disks, two movie, two features.

It's too bad you don't have the special features for at least the first and last movies. There's stuff about the training of the horses and all the 'extra' horses and riders that came from all over New Zealand for the big battle scenes.

Good morning,

We use whatever happens to be on sale at http://www.countrysupply.com or http://www.valleyvet.com as long as it's in the ivermectin type and/or panacur type. And we just use one dose per horse every two months.

Admittedly, we have less problems with worms than someone in the southeast and/or maybe the northeast, but I really think all the hype about the different wormers and schedules is just that - to make money for the drug companies and the feed stores.

You might ask your vet for his recommendations for your area and just see what he has to say.

You should make her ride a horse because of that.

Where is that place? You should take them to moms. She can exercise them for you.

show on Animal Planet called Trail Mix

I saw that advertised last night. It looks pretty cool. Animal Cops has another new Humane Society in Arizona, they are showing this week.

Good afternoon, just past 12:30 pm now. Lunch is done, now I need a nap. Did you ever get through all those magazines?

...There's stuff about the training of the horses and all the 'extra' horses and riders that came from all over New Zealand for the big battle scenes.

Oooooo, that sounds cool. I may have to see if I can get that version later on, maybe off ebay or something. The version I got was the first one of all three together that they came out with and it was pretty pricey at the time. I think I paid about $65 for it. Pretty stupid now that I think about it for something I never even watched until a year later and could probably buy now for $20. I do stuff like that all the time. I'll buy the hardback version of a book for $30 coz I just gotta have it, when if I'd just wait 'til it came out in paperback I could get it for $5. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Yes I did, thank you very much. Very interesting and exciting seeing pictures of now legends as weanlings and yearlings at the regional shows.

The old magazines used to cover all of the regionals - now they only cover the World :(

~heh~ If you do go for one extended, get the RoTK EE - the last one, because it has the stuff on the horses.

The training stuff was interesting, particularly the big grey Andalusian that played Shadowfax, the liberty horse who was trained to put his foot on a mark to make sure he was in the correct position.

They also showed all the actors, most of whom did all their own riding, in riding lessons. They also spend some time with the stunt riders who did some of the more dangerous stuff, particularly a woman I remember who rode for Arwen in the great chase to the river in the first film.

Viggo, lefty moonbat that he is, became quite a rider and did all his own riding, spending a lot of extra time with the horse "Brego" who was the one who did the great scene at the River when he lays down so Aragorn can get on. They show the training for that.

And they show what became of the horses. Viggo bought Brego, who had previously been a Grande Prix dressage horse. He also bought the grey Andalusian stallion Arwen rides at the beginning, as a gift to that stunt rider who wanted him but couldn't afford his price. It was sweet.

Oh I don't think I can watch Animals Cops

Maybe the happy ending, I can't stand animal abuse

Forget about it. My horses would be sitting in the car at Walmart with the windows cracked, eating hamburgers:') La Grange is on 71 before you get to I10 going to dads. It's a straight shot thru Victoria so no further to his house than 59.

We'll see what happens. Right now I'm going to rotate them. Today Okies turn. I'm fixing to head out there. I have to pick a doctor up at the airport tonight and go in and get set up for an inservice tommorrow so I got the afternoon off.

You still own the horse, he has the same care, gets ridden and you don't have the bills. Sounds sweet to me. Just get in all in writing. We have leased a couple of show horses. Same situation as you, owners didn't have time, but didn't want to sell.

Agreed. Not sure why it sounds worse now that you know the leasee should pay all expenses :~D That's what I'd do with the pony if a prospective owner came along. She's not worth much money, but I don't want to sell her until they've tried her and know she's gonna work for them.

Maybe I'm that way with the pony too. I don't want to sell her, but I do wish someone was doing something with her. I'd lease her but it'd have to be a good match.
