New verse:

Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Well...whaddaya know? An honest precious.
There are aspects of the situation that are humorous...Joshua yelling at Steve across the yard to keep a look-out for her head is one...
Oh dear...
So y'all got hold of the Firefly set? Don't you LOVE it?
I just found a recipe for some Old Fashioned Molasses Cookies. Wanna try some for Thanksgiving or Christmas.
I wonder what our neighbor's think when they hear stuff like that being shouted across the yard...
Love is not too strong a word! We have been in hysterics. Especially the episode with the town where Jayne's a hero. And the one where Mal accidentally got married. And any scene with Simor except the ones where River goes psycho.
My favorite molasses cookies were in a Mennonite cookbook, and were called "Dusty Miller Cookies". And Dad apparently got rid of the cookbook, along with most of my other favorites. And last time I looked for it on-line, it was out of print, and the used copies (on Amazon and such) were going for close to a hundred bucks - apparently its in demand.
Grr.
They were absolutely wonderful, too. Not soft ones (I like those once in awhile, but they aren't my favorites), but melt-in-your-mouth good.
I love talapia! Good stuff!
Hey, the grocery down the street had ground round on sale for $1.89 a pound! 90% lean, at that!
I hate to say it, but I bought 30 pounds. Cost a fortune, but in the long run it'll pay off.
If the electricity doesn't go out...
We eat a lot of burger, but usually 80% lean because it's reasonable. But there's a lot of waste, as that 20 or so melts and runs off. I made the jedis some burgers the other day in the GF grill and only a couple of drops of broth ended up in the little tray!
It's a bit dry, but with sauces or gravy or mayo, it's really good!
Did you know that a dusty miller is also another name for a moth? Just any old moth, is my understanding.
I've called moths "millers' most of my life.
30 pounds, huh?
And Jen makes fun of *me* for buying a few extra of whatever's on sale at the grocery. ;-)
Seriesly, though, that's a good price. Not a bad move, since you've got the storage space for it.
Yep, good ol' Rudolph the Red-Doored Freezer.
There's some sort of plant or flower with that name, too. Can't recall what...just that it rendered any kinda Google search for the recipe useless. ;-) I did try to find it!
They shipped really well, too.
No, that was only the one time with the three bottles of barbeque sauce.
Anyway we can't fit thirty pounds of meat in the freezer, not without removing either the vegetables or the booze.
Is this anything like what you remember?
3/4 c shortening
1 egg
2-1/2 t soda
1 t cinnamon
1 c sugar
1/4 c molasses
1 t ginger
2 c flour
Cream together shortening and sugar. Add egg and molasses. Soft together flour, soda and spices and mix into creamed mixture. Chill for at least two hours. Form into small balls, about 1 in diameter, roll in powered sugar. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Let cool 2-3 minutes on sheet before removing to wire rack.
Makes about 5 dozen.
LOL!!
Noooooo! Not the booze! Heh...like there's really that much of it.
Well...we'll use the barbeque sauce, won't we? Heh... Oh well. It's habit at this point, pretty much - if I see stuff I use a lot or that I know I'll use eventually at really good prices, I stock up.
That doesn't look too far off, I don't think. I remember it had shortening and ginger and molasses, in any case. And soda and no baking powder. I don't remember there being any chilling involved, though...but maybe that isn't a bit deal.
Where's that from?
Ywah, I think we're on the second bottle now. I would shop in bulk too if we had room for it.
Just google. I tried searching "dusty miller" cookies molasses, and there were a lot of hits. That one sounded reasonable.
