The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Good deal! Just put brownies in to bake. Doing some laundry, too.

Finished TheRaisedBed and just dumped in all the leaves I raked up last fall. (had them sitting around in lawn bags.) Time to fire up the grill.

Well, I may be heading to Camp Gruber in the morning...first thing in the morning. A couple of thousand evacuees are there and my church is gathering workers to go and help out...my nursing skills may be of use.

I'm waiting to hear from the associate pastor of my church to see if they need me and can I catch a ride with someone...the jedis are getting their schoolwork done today so Steve won't have to deal with that tomorrow! Working on schoolwork on Sunday isn't usually "done", but this is an "ox in the ditch" situation! Steve is home to watch the boys so this might be a good chance for me to do something.

Steve is donating platelets on Tuesday, then he can donate blood on Sunday, September 11th, when I do.

Heh!! Me too! Brownies and laundry and supervising Joshua's schoolwork.

I think I figured out where I got the dryer...my church has a new ministry that has just started up this summer that does stuff like this. I'm thinking that's where it came from.

I know for sure it's not from my folks...I told my dad about it and he said they absolutely didn't send it.

Well, if it came from my church, then hopefully my helping out the evacuees at Camp Gruber will help repay the debt...

Heh heh. Am I a bad person if I hope he felt awkward having to say that? ;)

Well, at least I can take vital signs, check blood sugars and administer insulin...and gather medical information and make assessments.

I hope I can hitch a ride with someone...I can help pay for the gas, even...but my car isn't dependable enough to make it.

I've wanted to be a part of the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief for a long time...even have them linked on my profile. But to go to actual disaster areas, you have to have extensive training. The next orientation is October 1st and I am hoping their will be others from my church who will be attending and I can catch a ride.

Heh!! He actually seemed quite tickled. He said it either came from my church or I had a really good friend somewhere!

Joshua, bless him, said "Now you have a secret admirer, like you're Shelby's secret admirer!" (Shelby is the young lady across the street that I put the encouraging frame and keepsake box in her mailbox as a secret admirer!)

You don't owe a debt over that dryer, you know, 2J? Part of being a nice person is accepting that sometimes other nice people will do things for you. You can't just give all the time... I'm glad the dryer's not from your parents, though.

I hope you can go, too. You can warm a heart even on your worst day so you could do a *lot* of good helping with disaster relief. The thing that the faith-based organizations offer that the gubmint groups can't even come close to is the human touch - and you've got it.

That's nice...and I appreciate it! But I can't help it...I can't WAIT to help others out, after people have been so nice to me! I can't wait to have an extra couple hundred bucks...I am going to donate it the HSLDA benevolence fund in honor of those folks that gave us that Christmas money. I want them to know I never forgot, even though it's been years.

So I don't have much *right now*, but I've got sweat...and I've got blood! And Steve is giving me Labor Day to do something.

You have no need to 'repay the debt', but I know helping the Katrina evacuees will make you feel lots better.

Well, we're off to the inlaws' house for a cookout. I overcooked the brownies so they're a bit crumbly but vey decadent. (I might just have to try the recipe again - just for practice....) But ya just can't go wrong with chocolate. ;)

Exactly...it'll make me feel better. Like I'm part of the process of human kindness, instead of just the recipient. :-)

Even if it's just one day, I can say all my life that I did what I could. And hopefully my jedis will be watching and when they grow up and a task like this comes to them, they'll do what they can.

Our church is purchasing a meal trailer...completely set up to pull in and start cranking out meals in a disaster situation...thousands of hot meals. These meal trailers are hauled by 18 wheelers. Mobile kitchens, you know? We took up a special offering today, just for that.

Mmmm!

My brownies are just a mix from Aldi's...but the jedis can't believe their luck! Ha ha!

Hmmm. grill, perhaps BBQ squirrel?

The raised bed : What are you going to put on top of the leaves? Or did the leaves fill it?

Got the wood pile moved, the firewood rack moved and firewood restacked. Boy, howdy, there were sure a lot spiders, crickets and slugs in there. Well, they ain't there now. :-)

Lot's of crickets here too!

I'm going to put this year's leave in it and some peat moss and garden soil. Going to chop it up real good with the tiller.

Moving the second wood rack sure cleaned up the back corner. We'll be restaining the back fence early this fall. We've got lots of ferns to move in there and change another grass area to flowers. Not sure what we'll put there yet.
