My dog loved them, but BEWARE!!

Just thought I'd share with Freepers a warning.

A few years back, I was able to get ahold of a whole bunch of CA valley wine grapes. I sat in the kitchen, and the mutt, of course who always gets a bit of what I'm eating tried one.

He loved it! So over the next few minutes or so, I ate a couple cups worth, and he must have had twenty or thirty.

Sadly, the hound will have to forego any more grapes. He didn't even get sick, but I find out on the tv tonight grapes and raisins are HIGHLY TOXIC to dogs, and there have been deaths from it.

Who knows? Maybe there is a way a dog can acquire immunity, because Max never suffered any ill effects.

So any hound lovers out there, be careful.

I had a dog that would eat coconuts, avacodos and blackberrys. Probably would have scarfed grapes too if there had been any around.

Macademia nuts are toxic to dogs, too, at least temporarily.

My dachshund once got up on the table and ate about half a can. Not only was she sick to her stomach for days, but it caused temporary muscle weakness...she couldn't walk without stumbling. Very scary stuff.

Luckily it wore off after a few days.

Dogs can't digest the cocoa in chocolate, so it causes severe gastrointestinal problems. Onions are also toxic for dogs.

Chocolate is harmful to dogs. It contains a chemical that their livers can't process. I give my dog carob drops from PetSmart.

I used to give him grapes. He could have eaten a whole bunch in one sitting if I had let him - he loved them so much. Then I read in Reader's Digest that grapes are harmful to dogs - damages either their liver or kidneys; so that treat was immediately stopped. Nowadays I won't even buy grapes for myself because I don't want him to beg for them.

I've read that onions are very bad for dogs. Mine loves, loves raw carrots.

Well as long as you don't tell my dog your facts, I don't think there'll be any problem. He's been eating (cooked) chicken bones for four years. And the way he goes through Turkey bones is awesome !!. He is definetly into thanksgiving dinners. Just the Facts.....Out of curiousity, How much longer should I expect to wait for him to finally croak from swallowing that 1 pound solid chocolate bunny I gave him last Easter ?

Only thing I ever see get stuck in his mouth are Porcupine Quills. Now those do seem to be a problem. Nothing else however seems to phase him.
