My dog loved them, but BEWARE!!
Posted on 07/26/2005 10:38:04 PM PDT by djf
Just thought I'd share with Freepers a warning.
A few years back, I was able to get ahold of a whole bunch of CA valley wine grapes. I sat in the kitchen, and the mutt, of course who always gets a bit of what I'm eating tried one.
He loved it! So over the next few minutes or so, I ate a couple cups worth, and he must have had twenty or thirty.
Sadly, the hound will have to forego any more grapes. He didn't even get sick, but I find out on the tv tonight grapes and raisins are HIGHLY TOXIC to dogs, and there have been deaths from it.
Who knows? Maybe there is a way a dog can acquire immunity, because Max never suffered any ill effects.
So any hound lovers out there, be careful.

My Catahoula Leopard Dog, Kato will eat anything. I mean anything. He has killed and eaten two possum that ventured onto my place from the desert scrub. But one thing he will go completely apeshit for are pork rinds. He was hardheaded and stubborn and PRETENDED to be about as bright as a sack of wet mice. It was his way of getting out things, playing dumb. All of that changed when I gave him a pork rind out of a bag I was eating. He will do anything for a pork rind.
With Howard Dean the dems have formally graduated from "disarray" to "debacle", with "irretrievable disaster" just around the corner.

Raw chicken bones will not hurt a dog. Its not the chocolate its the caffein in it. If no caffein then no problem. Cooked chicken bones are not digestible. A splintered leg bone can pierce a gut and kill your dog. These are FACTS.

This is the first dog to do that...and she has THE nicest coat. I always attributed the avocado to it...
She's NOW taken to going to the orange tree if she can't find a tennis ball and taking an orange off to play with, then eat....

Our Springer has a sweet tooth. I can't hide Hershey Minatures or Junior Mints in my office desk any more. The kids see the dog setting in front of my desk and immediately know where my "supply" is hidden. He is also very fond of popcorn, grapes and Rainer cherries. One of my favorites past-times is watching him bob for ice cubes in his water bowl.

Its not the chocolate its the caffein in it.
I think you mean it's the theobromine, a compound which is very similar to caffeine.

Thanks for posting this, DJF.
Sometimes as a treat, I give one of my two cats little pieces of apples and bananas. He also likes pancakes and marinara sauce. Maybe I'd better check to see if any of it is as bad as grapes and raisins for dogs.

chicken bones are hollow and can get caught in their throats. Neighbor's lab died when granddaughter feed dog a piece of chicken. Bones also got caught on roof of his mouth.

Catahoulas are something else. Louisiana's native dog.
A friend had two and one day she was coming home, about to open her gate when someone tried to snatch her purse. She's an older lady, and she was dragged on the ground as they tried to get her purse.
Her Catahoula hounds BIT THROUGH the chain link fence to get to the perp. Needless to say, he wasn't in very good shape by the time the police got there. They protected their mama and she loves them dearly.
