What was the last CD you listened to? (Music recommendations? Memories? Etc...)

Hello FR music fans. A light hearted thread for FReepers to discuss what music they have been listening to lately (old and new). It might be cool to be exposed to new music or old music that others might not have heard. Since I don't have a life, I'm home on a Saturday night listening to my local rock station (WRIF -Detroit).

Last CD in the player was Celtic Cross' "Hicksville".

"Minnie Ripperton Come To My Garden"

Do you watch Minnie's daughter, Maya Rudolph, on Sat. Night Live? Maya can sing anything. She did a wonderful tribute to her late Mom on Mother's Day a few years ago.

[Metallica--St. Anger]

I'm not sure if you're serious or just pulling our legs, but "St. Anger"?

I don't know a single person even among the Metallica fans I know (including myself) who likes this album in any way, shape, or form. If you're kidding about liking it just to provoke controversy then I say to you: "Ha! Good one!"

But if you really like this thing then I guess there's no point to debating personal taste in music.

But I just have to shake my head
:^)

Nothing but Steely Dan.

Anything from Aja on

Some pre-Aja

IMHO, "Aja" is the best they ever did, and in fact, I consider it to be the "best" album ever made (and many audio engineers agree). I'm not really talking about it just from the musical side... Excellent writing, spectacular musicians, etc. But the actual recording and mixing is really something else. It really is amazing when analyzed technically, and a lot of audio schools use it as an example of what to do.

I'm listening to it because I bought it after watching the Some Kind of Monster documentary. The songs sounded alot better when you only hear the good parts, lol. The question was what was the last cd I listened too, not which was the last good cd I listened too.

Joking, obviously.

This was my breakout album - and you make JOKES? Have any requests?

You may be right about Aja, but The Royal Scam is my favorite Dan album.

Me bad....

I don't know anyone in the band and I never met them and I never saw them in concert.

But the music means so much to me and was so true to me in the dark times that I feel like I know them and I was there backstage, watching them live, living it.

No one hears his lonely sigh
There are no blankets where he lies
In all his deepest dreams the gypsy flies
With sweet Melissa . . . Mmmm

Again the morning's come
Again he's on the run
Sunbeams shining through his hair
Appearing not to have a care
Well, pick up your gear and gypsy roll on, roll on

Crossroads, will you ever let him go? . . . .

Plant's new album... is pretty good.
The New Foo Fighters, is damned good.
The New Three Doors Down is palatable.

Went to pick up the latest collective soul, wallflowers and third eye blind cd's a couple of days ago...
sold out.

Must not be too shabby either.

Selah. I heard a song of theirs, and then I listened to the snippets of all their songs at Amazon, and then I bought hubby three of their CDs for Fathers' Day. Excellent!

You may be right about Aja, but The Royal Scam is my favorite Dan album.

You are correct..."Take Me Alive", "Haitian Divorce" on and on.

But Aja on good vinyl will blow you away.

I guess it's kinda like The Beatles: Sgt. Peppers = Masterpiece, but "Revolver" is my favorite.

Mars Volta has two albums.

- "Deloused in the Comatorium"
- "Frances the Mute"

Resist the temptation to listen to individual songs on either album. Just get one of the albums and listen to it all the way through, because it is much more enjoyable that way.

I recommend the most recent one, "Frances the Mute", but if you're not ambitious enough to invest the time listening from beginning to end then you won't like it. It's sort of like the psychedelic concept albums from the seventies that way; lots of stuff going on within and between the songs that makes up a huge part of the sound.
