Hello FR music fans. A light hearted thread for FReepers to discuss what music they have been listening to lately (old and new). It might be cool to be exposed to new music or old music that others might not have heard. Since I don't have a life, I'm home on a Saturday night listening to my local rock station (WRIF -Detroit).

Some day soon, they'll come out with a receiver that's both XM and Sirius capable. For now, having both would be kinda cumbersome. As for the playlist depth, this has improved noticeably of late.

Didn't Bill Bruford play drums with them for a while, and then go to YES and then back to King Crimson? Something like that, anyway. Not only that, he toured with Genesis in 76, when Phil first became the frontman.

Right now I'm listening to Dick Bartley's Rock & Roll's Greatest Hits request program. The last CD I listened to was a Dean Martin album.

When I'm feeling "gnarly", I'll listen to Pat Travers "Snortin' Whiskey", or to Autograph "Turn Up The Radio". I have both on a CD titled "18 Headbangers from the 80's" Judias Priest's "You Got Another Thing Coming" is good too...
I also have Alan Parsons Project's "The Definitive Collection" for those "mellower" moments.....

I thought I heard that Downes and White were going to do a tour this summer and Chris Squire was going to get 'The Syn' together to tour along with those guys. Any truth to that rumor?

One of the real problems with that era was all the good humor was on the left either in the song lyrics or stand up. I have all of the Tom Lehrer, Alan Sherman and Stan Freberg albums as well as The Smothers Brothers. Some of their stuff is rich, better than what passes for humor today and groups like Chad Mitchell Trio, Kingston Trio, Highway Men, Brothers Four, New Christie Minstrels could play instruments, write music with lyrics you could understand and harmonize. I think I'll still commit myself.

She died too young. Incredible voice.

I've got a live bootleg LP from one of Marillion's last shows, it's 4 records. One picture on the back of the jacket shows an aerial shot of the show, the crowd is HUGE! The album itself is full of stuff from "Clutching..." That was definitely an awesome recording.
I think my favorite though is "Fugazi" the lyrics for 'Incubus' are nothing short of poetry.

I'm 49 and find that I like the same music as my teenage sons.If the performers can play some sort of instrument with REAL singing included, I jazzed about it. RAP has neither. Luckily, a few old-school bands are still touring...

Allman Brothers... I am friends with a guy who grew up and is still friends with the band. He was in a couple of bands with the brothers and was, I kid you not, roommates with Duane when he was killed in the motorcycle accident. I've met the band several times and my friend is still very close with Butch Trucks. They all grew up in Florida together...my friend has a gold record for Greg Allman solo album....

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is my all time favorite album, but I do love Trick of the Tail (especially Ripples). It was much better when Phil didn't write the songs, and kept his vocals more tame, then when he became a shouter later on. When Hackett left, that's when Genesis really started to decline, BTW Wind is Wuthering is great also.Agreed! Here, Here!

An SACD version of Wagner's Greatest Hits by the Berlin Philharmonic. I have always loved German opera. Prior to that Toby Keith's new Honky Tonk U. I can really relate to his song about not being as good as I once was, but still being as good once as I ever was.
