Hello FR music fans. A light hearted thread for FReepers to discuss what music they have been listening to lately (old and new). It might be cool to be exposed to new music or old music that others might not have heard. Since I don't have a life, I'm home on a Saturday night listening to my local rock station (WRIF -Detroit).
I'm a fan of lyrics thus the Fish era is my favorite. I love poetry in lyrics or songs that tell a story. I'd put him up against ANY lyricist/songwriter including John Lennon or the highly overrated Kurt Cobain.
The others in the CD changer are Depeche Mode - Violator, Manowar - Hail to England, Oasis - What's the Story Morning Glory?, and Bush - Sixteen Stone.
The wife wacked me on the head and the boy was groovin to it as he got dressed for church.
Joking, obviously. Most recent: The Pogues - Red Roses For Me.
David Sanborn's "Closer" -- it's excellent.
Petra Praise
"Dixie Chicken" is good, my fav is "Let it Roll"
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is my all time favorite album, but I do love Trick of the Tail (especially Ripples). It was much better when Phil didn't write the songs, and kept his vocals more tame, then when he became a shouter later on. When Hackett left, that's when Genesis really started to decline, BTW Wind is Wuthering is great also.
whoooooaaaaa...the memories...I never dd belive that dead brain cell theory..rock-eth on-eth!
I've been on this Maroon 5 kick for a while. Great mix of several types of music - blues, rock, semi-funk (base lines). Good beat, lyrics, not a bad song on the CD. I think the title is Songs About Jane or something like that.
Beethoven--Christ on the Mount of Olives..
but if we talkin' modern, Mark Knopler's soundtrack
to 'Metroland' and all his solo albums.
Barry's Boys
We're the bright young men who want to go back to 1910,
We're Barry's Boys.
We're the kids with a cause: a government like Grandma's was,
We're Barry's boys.
We're the new kind of youth at your alma mater.
Back to the silver standard and solid Goldwater.
Back to when the poor were poor and rich were rich,
And you felt so damned secure just knowing which were which.
We're the folks who agree to be social without security,
we're Barry's boys.
Now his hat's in the ring, where Westbrook Pegler* once was king. Now he's too left wing.
So if you don't want to recognize that old Red China,
Or Canada, or Britain, or South Carolina,
You, too, can join the crew. Tippecanoe and Nixon, too.
Back to Barry, back to cash and carry, back to Barry's boys. The Chad Mitchell Trio, 1964*Westbrook Pegler: Right-leaning polemicist of the mid-twentieth century--a sort of Michael Savage of his day
"Focus" Composed by Eddie Sauter and played by Stan Getz (jazz saxaphone) and orchestra.
Just got done listening to Los Lonely Boys, before that I listened to Styx - Big Bang Theory.
A good song for all you Nash Rambler fans out there.....
"Hey buddy, how can I get this car, out of second gear..."
Clutching at Straws was another great Marillion effort (the last with Fish).
Playing at the moment: Jimmie Rodgers - Blue Yodel
Just finished playing: ZZ Top - Just Got Paid
Satellite Radio is the way of the future for music fans. No commercials, all kinds of different stuff, no artist/label pumping. Conservative Talk when you want that, traffic reports more or less on demand, comedy, audio from Fox News and CNBC, and much, much more.
Aka the music from "Fifth Element".
