Lazamataz's Opus: No longer a Republican (Vanity)
Now | Me

Posted on 04/26/2005 7:27:21 AM PDT by Lazamataz

Well, they went and did it.

The Republicans look like they will wimp out, not exercise the so-called Nuclear Option, and Harry Reid will PERMIT two judges to be approved and disapprove four others. Does anyone think for a second the Democrats won't "go nuclear" in a heartbeat if the roles were reversed?

This seals the deal for me. I am a Republican no more. It seems it does not matter if I vote Republican anyways, all I get is more liberalism. I am a man without a political party. I am a conservative without a home.

Between Bushes enthusiastic embrace of illegal immigration, and our party's inability to get even moderately conservative judges approved, what's the freakin' point of voting Republican any more? What's the point of voting? I will get liberalism no matter how I vote. My main issue is guns, and it appears the Democrats have learned their lesson on that one, so it appears I will be safe on the firearms front. Everything else the Republicans stand for, they stand for in word only. They do not seem to want to act. Therefore, I do not seem to want to vote Republican any more.

This is my Opus -- not from Free Republic, but from the Republican party. Even when they have the majority, they surrender.

The Republican Party is the France of politics.

The "control of a huge and growing bureaucracy, and the management of an enormous mass of subsidized voting-power, are as agreeable to one stripe of politician as they are to another. Presumably they interest a Republican or a Progressive as much as they do a Democrat, Communist, Farmer-Labourite, Socialist, or whatever a politician may, for electioneering purposes, see fit to call himself.

"This was demonstrated in the local campaigns of 1934 by the practical attitude of politicians who represented nominal opposition parties. It is now being further demonstrated by the derisible haste that the leaders of the official opposition are making towards what they call "reorganization"of their party.

"One may well be inattentive to their words; their actions, however, mean simply that the recent accretions of State power are here to stay, and that they are aware of it; and that, such being the case, they are preparing to dispose themselves most advantageously in a contest for their control and management. This is all that "reorganization" of the Republican party means, and all it is meant to mean; and this is in itself quite enough to show that any expectation of an essential change of regime through a change of party-administration is illusory.

"On the contrary, it is clear that whatever party-competition we shall see hereafter will be on the same terms as heretofore. It will be a competition for control and management, and it would naturally issue in still closer centralization, still further extension of the bureaucratic principle, and still larger concessions to subsidized voting-power. This course would be strictly historical, and is furthermore to be expected as lying in the nature of things, as it so obviously does."

Albert Jay Nock Our Enemy, The State

Nock was a really odd bird who was a frequent guest of the Buckley family when William F. Buckley, Jr. was growing up. WFB acknowledges Nock's influence upon his own worldview. WFB does, however, criticize Nock for being too pessimistic.

Despite Nock's pessimism, there is truth in his observations respecting how political parties behave: That is, like political parties.

Don't feel like the lone ranger.

IMO both major parties are on the path to socialism. (Dems being on a superhighway)

Corruption, nepotism, and cronyism are rampant in both parties. (Look at BCCI if you want a sterling example.)

It makes deciding how to vote very difficult for me. Dems are out - except for Zell Miller;
Republicans are better than dems (almost always), but on very few issues change the course set by the dems (firearms being the best positive example)
Finally, the alternatives (Libertarian/constitution) are not yet mature enough parties to win elections (with New York State being the best exception due to NY's funky way of assigning liberal or conservative party status - with R no longer having a monopoly on the conservative voters)

For short term results it is tempting to vote republican. But R does not provide a strong long term solution.

Bottom line I recommend for people in this quandary to vote Libertarian in all races with a clear leader in the polls. However, if the race is in jeopardy, vote republican. So, any ideological conservative in Massachusetts in the last presidential election should have voted for the most conservative candidate, without worry about any negative effects. Thus building a conservative base for the future, and sending a message to the Repubs that their performance is not adequate.

Regards,

Laura Ingraham said it best-no more $$$ to the RNC until a stand is taken.

How true...The Republican Party called our house a few weeks back looking for "emergency" money to combat the Dems and the liberal media.

I said to the caller: "The Republican party will nt see one more dime out of my paycheck until the borders are sealed."

The young man came back with some pre-written response about how Bush is againt illegal immigration, but the libral media blablablabla.

I replied to him that that all may very well be true, however, until I hear President Bush state clearly that the borders were going to be sealed, he and the Republican Party would not receive any more of my paycheck.

Reacting to a Democratic offer in the fight over filibusters, Republican leader Bill Frist said Tuesday he isn't interested in any deal that fails to ensure Senate confirmation for all of President Bush's judicial nominees.

Outstanding! If there is no deal, I will return to the Republican party. Very uneasily, very skittishly, and I will need a few more victories before I'll feel comfortable.

But perhaps the phone calls and emails are starting to make a difference. I'm not egotistical enough to believe that a thread on FR made a difference, but I bet you all the people who responded here have emailed and called, and that DID make a difference.

Instead of huffing and puffing about what you're reading and hearing in the MSM, which would love nothing better than conservatives to get pi$$ed and leave the party, why not wait and see what actually gets DONE?

I feel your pain, Laz. We rag on blacks for staying on the Dem plantation when the Dems could care less about their interests - and then show up every couple of years to pull the elephant lever, and then have the GOP leadership shaft us time and time again - and then come right back like a good battered wife.

I think we should form a non-candidate party that would simply endorse individual candidates in other parties - if they want our votes, they need to address our concerns as a block. Numbers get attention.

The Constitutions creep me out a little. Kinda John-Birchish conspirazoids, no?

Bush's border treachery is making the conspirazoids looks plausible.

Anyone knows?

so it appears I will be safe on the firearms front.

Mr. Mataz,

I don't trust them bastards as far as I could shoot one. Be viligent! I do feel your pain about the republican party however. Living in CA, a vote for a republican is a waste anyway. Might as well join the Constitution Party, at least they stand for something.

Doesn't matter if you're premature [you're not, IMO], needed to be said anyway.

I'm not falling for the "It's about the JUDGES!" line again.

Conservative Repubs are outnumbered by Liberals, MSM, Moderates & RINOS -- they need to be tough and principled.

Anyone who has ever been confused about the difference between "conservative" and "Republican"....that's what he's talking about.

We give the dems a lot of crap here, all of it well deserved but damn it, at least they know how to be a majority party.

I too, am getting tired of this limp-wristed BULL%%IT with repubs at local, state and federal level.
