Gov. Bush Washes Hands of Schiavo Matter
by Scott Ott
(2005-03-27) -- In a symbolic move, designed to show Terri Schiavo's supporters that he has done all he can do to spare her life, Gov. Jeb Bush today publicly used a disposable moist towlette to "wash his hands of the matter."
"I find nothing deserving death in this woman, but I'm only the supreme executive of Florida," the governor told a crowded news conference. "Perhaps if our constitution called for a balance of powers to protect our citizens against judicial abuse, I could do something. But as it stands, she is in the hands of the judges. It's their job to determine what is truth. If she dies, it's not my fault."
In related news, Gov. Bush continued his Easter tradition of pardoning a Florida citizen chosen by a statewide poll of judges. This year's candidates for pardon were Mrs. Schiavo and burglar who had killed a homeowner during a break-in.
The burglar won in a landslide.

He wasn't interested in running for POTUS anyway. Where have you been? It's been all over the papers LONG before this murder of Terri Schiavo by her HUSBAND AND THE JUDGES.

This is the kind of vile garbage and character assassination associated with Rat hate sites like the DU.
Its a sad commentary on our times that this vomit now appears on the Free Republic web site.

This post is in such poor taste, a PBR taste GOOD in comparison!

She's their test case, donchaknow. That and the whole Scientology, Soros, Let's kill those we don't want around crowd, maybe even something unspeakable or actually evil. I found this a little while ago, at the bottom: "The "I Love You But Please Die" Syndrome Embodied in Federal Law: Under the current estate tax law pushed through by the Bush Administration in 2001, the inheritance tax drops from 45% to 0% on January 1, 2010, then rises to 55% on January 1, 2011. [Q to FR: true???]] By one estimate, there will be six million estates of over $1 million settled over the next few decades, so the stakes are high, indeed. The common law evolved in sizable part to handle inheritance issues, but the Right to Die laws emerged during recent decades when we've largely stopped talking publicly about estates, so there is a potential for contradiction. The question of conflict of interest in right-to-die cases is a very serious one.." See: http://isteve.blogspot.com/2005/03/inside-story-on-schiavo-case.html

I already posted a long reply to a thread on a similar Bash Jeb Bush topic earlier, so I don't know if I have another one in me tonight. I'm just as outraged over all this as the next person and I'm sick over the situation we find ourselves in with a judicial system that wields too much of the power which is supposed to be shared and dictates far more than was ever intended by our founders from the bench. However, I would like to ask you a simple question. Why is Jeb any more gutless than you or me or any of us, for that matter? If you are sitting at home observing the edict of the law and have not gone there to rescue Terri from this, then why would you expect Jeb to go past the point that all his legal counsel has told him he can go without stepping beyond the powers given to him by his office?
The Judicial branch did not gain their stranglehold over us overnight and the idea that Jeb has ultimate power just by virtue of his elected office is not realistic. He does not. If you feel so strongly that this must be done, it is just as much your responsibility as it is his. He already has done more work toward saving Terri than you have done and, despite all his efforts, it did not work. He will not have the power of law standing behind him should he act now any more than you would. He's the governor of a state with the responsibility of millions of people on his shoulders in addition to this terrible situation with Terri Shiavo. So what is your excuse?

Yeah, it's all Bush's fault. Golly, I guess all the RATs were right after all. (Angry sarcasm)

So what is your excuse? We are not in any position to safely "abuse" our power, however much or little we have. Jeb is.

What did Eisenhower do when Gov. Faubus refused to integrate schools? He forced a constitutional showdown, sent in troops, and prevailed. Why? Because he was on the side of right (and had an overwhelming advantage in firepower). If Gov. Bush were truly sincere in his efforts to do everything he could, he would do the same thing. What he really meant was that he did everything he was willing to do in the context of political viability. Not exactly a "Profile in Courage". If that's good enough for you, O.K. The argument that an individual citizen should be held to the same standard for action as the chief executive of a state, especially a state in which a person does not live, is ludicrous.

I just pray that Terri holds on long enough to get past today before she dies. It would be mocking Jesus if she were to die on the day He was resurrected. This is one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard, and you keep spamming thread after thread with it.
If she dies, she dies. Hundreds of thousands of people die on Easter Sunday.
And don't you believe God can determine the time of her death? If she dies today rather than tomorrow, it'll be because he wanted her to.

Yea, its Bush's fault... Bunch of DUmmies in here.

I wonder if Florida does one of those deals where you can be gov for the day. Maybe Jeb can appoint me and then take a few days off. I'd be glad to handle it.

"We are not in any position to safely "abuse" our power, however much or little we have. Jeb is."
I don't for one minute think he could defy the courts "safely". Law enforcement already stated they would follow the edict of the courts and not orders from the governor. Without the law to back him up what do think he would be able to do with Terri? Hide her in his garage? How long could they keep her before she was taken back to hospice and this process was begun again?
And even so, is that the criteria? Is everyone looking for someone to who can do this "safely" so we don't have to stick our own necks out and wind up in trouble over it? We each have our own reasons for not taking this past the legal limits. It's easy to blame others for not doing what you yourself are not willing to do. I don't think it accomplishes anything for us to eat our own and I believe that Terri Shiavo would not be undergoing death by starvation if Jeb Bush had the final say. He is not the enemy.

It might be satire, but the comparison is apt.
