The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

G'nad is off teaching...I'm sure he saw it on his way out this morning...

Tell g'nad to set up one of those infrared-triggered "deer cams" to watch the mailbox. Maybe you'll catch someone on film/RAM.

Actually, now that I'm bringing it into my mind's eye...or mouth...soda bread is one of the few things I don't mind raisins in, so long as they're good raisins! Just hate hitting a crunchy spot...ick!

But warm raisin soda bread with plenty of better is one of the finer things in life...

Just had the first slice. YUUUMMM! I used Golden Raisins I got from Trader Joes'. It's different from the stuff I get at Stop and Shop. It doesn't have as much fat in it; only used 2 tablespoons, and had a texture that's more like bread than cake. I guess the addition of the whole wheat flour did that.

Oooh, yeah...I like golden raisins.

Most of the time I've had soda bread, it's been crumbly...almost a little biscuit-like.

Raisins are evil...

I'd say I've moved about 3/4 of my stuff, excluding books. A bit more in the kitchen and some of the wall stuff and then I can start tackling the bookcases.

Not if they don't have any gritty bits!

But very few meet my high standards. I avoid oatmeal raisin cookies, for example, precisely because of that.

Grapes should be turned into wine. They serve no other purpose on this earth.

OK, time for me to head home! Have to stop and get groceries, too. Ah, the joys of living with family! It's the least I can do, though.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

On Sunday, I adopted TWELVE hermit crabs.

We've bought a couple of those at the beach before. Finally decided it wasn't worth having a pet if you couldn't tell if it was alive or dead...

Both of them were without any sypmtoms until they were given steroids.

Give him some shots and buy him a baseball bat...

Seriesly, I hope you can figger it out for him. Doesn't sound like fun.

You should name them Simon (also known as Peter), his brother Andrew, James son of Zebedee, his brother John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew the tax collector, James, son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Cananaean and Judas (or Matthias if that freaks you out).

Corin, you'd better thank Lil for saving you from a funkle.

Whew! Almost everything that's not books or furniture is in the new apartment. I'm going to start cleaning this one, and polish the furniture whilst I'm at it. Then I guess I'll have to go out for dinner since my stuff is in boxes.

Wish I had an excuse as good as that one! We went out last nite though to celebrate wrapping up that big project.
