The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

hehe... yah know... if Rainier blows, all manner of really bad stuff is gonna happen. More to Tacoma than Seattle, but still... orders of magnitude worse than St. Helens.

Congrats, Rosie!! I know that's HUGH load off your mind.! Things have been going smoothly for you, and I don't anticipate that changing in the near future. I know there's a great job waiting for you in CO!

Let's get to a civilized decade... one with internet and no leisure suits...

For men, the sixties started off with cotton, button front shirts and Banrol pants. The decade ended with them wearing jeans and tie dye t-shirts.
Leisure suits and polyester shirts were the uniform of the seventies.

My name is Corin and it has been at least 24 hours since my last visit to the gym.

And it will be at least 24 more...

I'm vey proud of it - it will have a big impact on our troops' ability to kick sandy butt.

Good on you, Lil!

A chick interviewed today said she had quit her job to hang outside the Jackson courthouse.

Stoopid is as stoopid does!

I've been going back some at night. Can't get it together to get there in the a.m. But some night's it just seems silly to go at 10:00 p.m.

Gyms are for people who don't really work for a living.

Dang... I hate it that I just said that, but its true. Those of us that work behind keyboards just don't work enough muscles to justify a pizza at the end of the day.

I can usually do pretty good if I get on a schedule.

Yah. It's a matter of getting it into the routine of the day. Back in January, after the accident, something finally clicked that I've got to take better care of myself, and somehow actually got it into my morning routine to do a little bit of a workout.

It actually worked. I'm amazed, but now I've got a little routine started that I can do anywhere. If I really stick with it then I'll move to the gym membership part.

I would have really dug the 70's myself... but I was just a kid.

Heh, I'm glad I wasn't a kid in the 70s. The 80s were weird enough. Plus you didn't have computers.

Heh....

Niters. I'll never know if I see M Jacko. This place is just lousy with big black Escalades. You never know who's in the next lane.

An amusing tidbit: Our office here is in the Marina Del Rey area, in a mostly business district. Turns out that exactly across the street from the office is the HQ for playboy.com.

Funny, that.

The... umm... attractions... parking their cars and walking across the street and along the sidewalks nearby are, as you might expect, better than even the average L.A. street. Needless to say... The competition for window offices is brutal.

Plus you didn't have computers.

We did too... they were just... really, really big.

WSU had an Amdahl 7000... pretty much the state of the art at the time. Those big spinning tape drives held almost a whole *megabyte* of data at a time. Heck... that thing had about 64 *whole megabytes* of RAM. [sigh] But then again, thats back when a dedicated modem connection of 2400bps was considered a "high speed" WAN. Most modems ran at 300bps. I miss those days. :-)
