The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

And it's a good lap warmer if the cat is unavailable.

Much better lap warmer than a cat. Want a cat? You can have our senile cat, our masochist cat, or our cat-larger-than-a-small-pony cat.

I think my laptop is gonna need a new keyboard eventually, though. It's getting...well, not really troublesome yet, but the keys have no bounce anymore. It's irritating when I try to type fast. Quite a few letters worn off, too...but I touchtype, so that's not such a big deal.

If I had any cash, I'd be replacing the whole durn thing. It's getting on towards four years old. Not that I neeeed anything better, but...it'd be nice to have something faster - and portable. This is a boat.

I am becoming more and more convinced that I'm allergic to cats...

My spastic cat considers it her JOB to be a lapwarmer while I'm at the computer. She stays stationed here even when I'm not here, except to eat and...emm...use the facilities.

I dunno... Cats have that soothing 'purr' feature.

Want a cat? You can have our senile cat, our masochist cat, or our cat-larger-than-a-small-pony cat.

No Jen... You can't give away the family cats. I have my own ergonomic kitty, who has all the features you describe in yours, all in one.

Are the keyboards replaceable in laptops? I'd hope so, because they do wear out, I've gone through 3-4 of them in the life of my computer.

Dad would be willing to pay shipping for them...

Wow, that cat looks almost as fat as our round mound of fur.

Yeah, they're replaceable. Just involves prying up a cover piece usually, I think. Dunno about costs involved, though.

Luckily this thing has been really pretty durable, considering the tough life its led! Surrounded by dust and puts and with me beating on it all the time...

I just noticed something! Take a look at Steve in that picture in front of the Saab, then take a look at Faramir. Hmmm.

I started to pre-order the Harry Potter #6.

I got e-mail from Borders for 40% off the cover price of HP if I pre-order it! I'm gonna get two of them; one each for Clare and Joseph for their collections.

Yep...I thought he was a Man from Gondor. But he was really a dwarf.

Not that that's a bad thing....
