The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Afternoon, everybody.

Heard from the long-lost sunroom people. They're starting on Feb. 1. It seems that they've been waiting on parts for 3 months.

The little BK3 gadget looks rather interesting. What's the ballpark $$ on that guy?

Our prices for the CQB1, BK2, and BK3, respectively, are $105, $52.50, and $78.50. Trust me, these are great prices, and I can't beat them with all my knife-shopping skill.

Postage to you, and the HH url laser-engraved on the knife, would be extra. I'll be getting at least a few of each, so you might want to join in the buy for yourself, if interested.

I'm going to try to keep 5 or 6 of each on hand, for quick turnaround. The best part is, we can buy in small quantities, so I don't have to shell out a big chunk of cash to get a large number all at once.

Hello!

We just had spaghetti with alfredo sauce...a favorite of the jedis. It isn't something Aldi normally carries so I got some while I could! A buck ninety-nine.

I've never heard of vodka sauce...

Vodka Sauce

INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup butter
1 onion, diced
1 cup vodka*
2 (28 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
1 pint heavy cream

DIRECTIONS:
In a skillet over medium heat, saute onion in butter until slightly brown and soft. Pour in vodka and let cook** for 10 minutes. Mix in crushed tomatoes and cook for 30 minutes. Pour in heavy cream and cook for another 30 minutes.

*Other resources say "use a quality vodka".
**This burns off the alcohol.

To prevent gossip and scandal, get the ready-made at Aldi :)

Hey there....mmmmm vodka sauce...

You are always telling such funny stories about your kids that now when mine do something extremely funny, I think of you and the boys.

Theboy said the other morning (when asken if he wanted eggs for breakfast) "Of course I want eggs, a man has eggs!"

Thegirl came in with 6 eggs tonight and said "Mom, don't be mad, but I broke an egg." (It was in the pocket of her jeans. :-)

Took thenewboy in to the doc today...he's got an ear infection...never would know it because he doesn't run a temp and isn't grouchy at all...just said to me yesterday "boo boo" and pointed to his ear. We are teaching him how to fall dead when struck by a sword during our sword play. :-)

Got our fish tank all set up and plan to get fish this next week. The kids are excited. Thegirl posted a sign in front of it that says..."no fishing...back off weirdo"

I'm really enjoying "A Well Trained Mind"...see lots of changes for the new year though.

Ha...yes, I hope she will remember that as a teenager as well...along with a little something her daddy teaches her and she should have no problem at all putting them in their place.

I'm off to spend some time with myman.

If you liked the books, the movie was good and faithful.

In "Well, isn't THAT special" news...

I just spent the last hour and a half proving that the unwanted group-partner my friends and I got stuck with plagiarised his part of our assignment. Badly. Maybe one paragraph was his own work. The rest was lifted from various scholarly articles. Thank goodness for Google! And for sharp-eyed partners. Tomorrow we go to the professor.

Aren't pasties just the Yooper version of empanadas or calzone?

Sort of! The filling is different, but the general idea is the same.

By the way, there's a small Italian restaurant not far from our house that makes an incredible calzone... yummmmm...

Evening OT - that's great news for you and miss kitty. "waiting for parts" is the first lesson they teach in the service industry training courses. Looks like the kitty door project to the garage may be safely deferred.
