The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oscar Nomnations

Heh...out of the entire list of nominees, I've seen none of the top ("best") films with the exception of The Incredibles and Shrek 2 both nominated for Best Animated Feature.

The only other ones on the entire list I've seen are The Passion of the Christ, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Spiderman 2.

What does that say about my movie choices? Hmmmmm...

Hm...I know that "Ray" is the movie they made about Ray Charles. And I've seen "I, Robot". Most of the others...I've never even heard of, let alone seen.

I'm guessin' it ain't much of a loss, neither.

The only ones I've seen in addition to your three are The Village, I Robot, and Super Size Me.

I only saw the latter because the kids watched it as part of a lab dealing with nutrition in Biology. It was an idiot liberal's stupid polemic about the terrible nutrition provided by McDonald's food. To prove this, he ate NOTHING but McD's food for a month. He was under a doctor's care, and kept issuing dire warnings about how bad his health was because of what he was eating.
DUH! McD's was never designed to be a person's entire diet! It was a good lesson in logic (or illogic, as the case may be) for the kids as they watched, however.

Can you believe that prom dress? As I said on the thread, any parent who would let their daughter leave the house in that dress should be flogged. But that's only after being flogged for buying it for her in the first place!

Suzi, mucho gracias for your advice...I actually consider it mucho support, as hubby is the one who seems to think that I have to replicate what she's been going through in regular school (all school all of the time) and high pressure always. We have a year to finish the fifth grade, but if we want her to move on to the 6th, then we need to finish by July.

I wish he would have let me do this when I wanted to. Seems like he goes out of his way to make life hard for me sometimes....

But I do appreciate your support...keep it coming!

See if you can find what the curriculum framework is for the state, and you can show him just how much MORE Erin will be doing as a homeschooler, even if she doesn't bust her behind each day. She can get done in two hours what her classmates take ALL day to do at school! There's a natural inclination by many to hold homeschoolers to a much higher standard than what would be expected at the public schools, though, I must admit, not THAT much is expected in the public schools nowadays anyway. There will always be kids in the public schools who do exceptionally well, but many will just coast along doing the minimum required.
Twas always thus.

I haven't even seen the films ~you've~ seen. I haven't seen any of them! No Spiderman, no Passion, no Shrek 2, no nothing. That's normal for me. I didn't go to theaters except for LoTR. I see most movies later on perhaps when they are on cable or on DVD.

My answer is gonna be tough, since I don't know where I'll be by then or how things we look from a cash standpoint. I do know Margaret really hopes to be able to come. I'd be camping if I did come, for sure...dunno any more than that.

I figure I'll see less and less now that Jr. wants to go with his girlfriend instead of dad. And there aren't that many that we're willing to take Luke to yet.

I'm considerin' rejoinin' Netflix...or maybe tryin' the Walmart version...

I ordered the headsets, so I'll be able to watch on the computer.
