Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Though we pass them by today...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

We went down to see our Tumwater Falls today, because the rivers are so full... You can see that this is a pretty deep ravine, so it doesn't flood it's banks so much as it just gets NOISIER when we get this much rain.
I've included earlier pictures I've taken there or that I could find that show the normal flow for comparison.
Here are the upper falls in SUMMER:

Here is the middle river in summer:

Here is the middle river today from almost the same spot but not quite. The rocks where we stood to take the other pic is under water.

Here are the lower falls in summer:

Wow, what a difference! Y'all have had a LOT of rain out there the last few days, right?
Did the doggies enjoy their jaunt?

They did enjoy their outing very much! We had another event today... When we were drivin' along on our outing we drove by these two loose horses walking around an area where it looks like someone is building a house.
I have a dog leash around one of them here, and ecurbh had gone back to the truck to get the other dog leash (and the camera) to catch the other one, when the owner showed up. They lived at the cluster of house and buildings behind them here.

Pinging Scott and Ramius to the falls pics above.

That is incredible, Hair!
Hey, guess what...
One of the guys on the VW forum saw my pictures of my car and PMed me...told me that this radio, if it works, is worth between $150 and $200 today. Just this radio.

Hey Corin, if you DO set up a blog let me know! I probably wont be posting very regularly now...today was Erin's last day! Poor thing was so sad. But I dont think I could have timed it any better. Tomorrow is the inauguration!
So, my fellow Hobbit Homeschoolers -- any thing off the net that I can pull down to use tomorrow as a lesson on civics and government...any neat stuff that I can throw together at the last minute????

Yeah! We just have to pay some sort of taxes. Shouldn't be too much and we've budgeted for it. Also, when it gets running, we'll have to get tags for it and pay for the insurance.
I'm not sure what the tax is that we have to pay...when we go to transfer the title...it may just be the tag tax that we don't even have to pay right now.
Gosh, I hope that radio works...

Well, Monday was Benjamin Franklin's birthday. Author, publisher, entrepaneur (sp), adventurer, sage, scientist, inventor, statesman, ambassador - vey cool, witty guy.
You could do something on ol' Ben.

I remember Joshua on his last day of preschool...he was crying so hard when we drove up at the BEGINNING of the day that he couldn't get out of the car to go in! He said "Let me just collect myself a minute." LOL So funny coming from a five year old. But it did break my heart...

The official
Inaugural 2005 website has a "history" link that looks like it has some good stuff: facts-n-figures, historic inaugural addresses, a thing on Washington's inaugural....

That website doesn't mention the "Black Tie and Boots" party, which is tonight, I believe. I heard something about it on thre radio this afternoon. This is the traditional party given by and for Texans.

Oh...poor thing! Erin can relate...she told me she camethisclose to bursting into tears in class...they were so sweet to her though...the girls lined up at the door and gave her hugs as she left. I took her out for Baskin Robins ice cream and bought her a huge cheesy pizza. I think she feels better now.
