The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yep.

IF we actually finish the painting job quickly, and IF I can get a TON of stuff hauled out of the basement and to the dump or wherever it goes by early next week...I may be contacting a realtor in not much more than a week...see what they estimate. *swallows hard*

So...I can still use a ton of prayer!

The fan is a good idea!

OK, they're closin' this place on account of the weather is getting scary...so I'll meet ya on the other side, so to speak. Heading home!

Oh yeah - if you've got a working scale, don't pitch that. Mine is so stupid, it reads between 7 and 12 pounds over. I have to look at it carefully before even using it, and I'm sure you can guess how depressing even 7 imaginary pounds can be.

Knife prayers up. Are we about to have a new model HH knife for direct distribution to individual service members?

Here's a photo of the knife, alongside the Hobbit Hole folder. It's a $110 list price that I got for $27 each. Unfortunately, I could only get 17 of them.

The picture shows one before laser-engraving the Hobbit Hole url on it (it comes out as a light gray against the black epoxy), and before the two hours I spend filing square notches in the handle to match those already on the tang. It increases grip confidence greatly, and sold me on this knife.

Even if we can get more of these knives, we have to be very selectinve in giving them out. It's inappropriate (and looks foolish) for anyone other than a line infantryman to have a knife like this. We're glad to give away the HH pocket knife to any GI who asks. But the sheath knife has to be reserved for those who really need one.

A friend of mine has been corresponding with a Soldier with the 101 Airborne, thru the Adopt-a-Soldier program. He forwarded this message he received today.

HEY!!

Sorry it's been so long, we've been busy. It's just about that time to redeploy...thank god...it's been crazy...I got shot again...and all this other crazy shit has been happening...so hoepfully things will start slowing down....

anywho, I just want to say thank you for supporting me this whole time, if you wouldn't mind email me your phone number, and I will try to give you a call and thank you so you can acctually hear me, I feel a bad that I haven't written to you guys a whole lot since you've been sending me things, and writing emails, I tried to respond to a lot of them, but the way my shifts work...it just couldn't come to be, but I am truly sorry that I didn't show my thanks sooner....anywho, I'm gonna go get a new bandage...you have a good day Tim.

Hi Fedora! Havent forgotten about ya!

Hi everyone! Well, I dunnit. I've set up shop on eBay and Imagunna sell my Star Wars stuff...so if you know of anyone who is collecting Star Wars, primarily books, comics, some figures, plates and an odd assortment, then check out dale*esgaroth in the next few days/weeks. It doesnt look like Star Wars stuff is moving much at this time, despite all the hoopla George is trying to gin up. Seems the only one excited are the little kiddos. No one even seems to be interested in the vintage stuff anymore. I should probably wait until the movie comes out, but I really cant afford to.

Collectings a big racket anyway.

*stewing in a sour SW mood*

Ask your friend for Sgt Scott's APO. He can be the first recipient of our HH "utility knife", with a HH folding knife in the accessory pouch.

I've asked for the APO address. I have Scott's e-mail already, through sloppy COMSEC.

Nasty weather headed our way.

I wish the sun would come out. I think I'm coming down with rickets.
