The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Rub some Vicks on your upper lip, and on your throat.

Gag. I do have some on my chest. That's helping.

Honestly, Vicks doesn't taste so bad, especially when you mix the sugar all through it ...

I'm weird ... I like the smell of Vicks ...

No, you're just tired, Corin. Coughing will wear you out.

No, spread a strip of Vicks finger-wide right under your nostrils, along the top of your mustache line. Rub some into your throat, and on your chest, then button up your pajamas and try to stay covered up.

And if you can take Nyquil or Robitussin or Vicks Cough Syrup, do so! It'll help you sleep. If you can't, try Cepacol for your throat.

I have an interesting prayer request, folks. Pray for knives. Actually, pray that a certain deal comes to pass.

The other day, I emailed a couple of photos of our Hobbit Hole pocket and "utility knife" to the company that makes our "utility knife". Bless the first person who read that email, which was just to "customerservice@[redacted].com". It was passed on to someone who has some power to get things done. This is what I got back today:

-----------------------

Rick I received a copy of your e-mail last week.It is a wonderful thing your doing for our troops. Please give me an idea on how much you can afford for both the infantry and regular pocket knives your so generously sending to our troops and I'll see how much I can help out with price.I realize that CRKT is a very excellent knife but I would prefer our troops to be carrying American made products. [redacted] at [redated]

-------

I think the closeups of his company's knife with the laser engraving and the hours of handwork I put on it was part of the (potential) deal-maker. He may or may not have visited the web site.

Pray for a successful conclusion for the troops, and us.

Just got up and saw your post. ;o) I'm doing fine. Taking David to the airport this afternoon to head back to Austin. He's looking forward to getting back to where he knows where all his stuff is. We're gonna miss him, though we haven't seen a whole lot of him. He, Paul and their friend have spent HOURS playing World of Warcraft since they've been home for break. He was regretting that he hadn't really taken a 'break', cause he'd been spending so much mental energy on that. Ah, youts.

I'm waiting for Clare to get ready so I can take her to her writing class at the local Community College. She's going to be late because I'm not getting out yet. We've got some nasty weather coming through and Joseph has a one hour delay for HIS school, so I'm taking Clare late as well. I don't think it will be a problem; her teacher is pretty nice, and I think she'll understand. She's liking the class, and only has a couple of days left. It was the 'Intersession', between the regular semesters, and she had only two weeks of classes, but the classes go from 8-12, so she's getting a full semester's credits for it!
