The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Not a thing, not a thing ... I'm playing hooky, and working on a writing exercise.

And how are you? How's the New Year treating you so far?

Not too badly at all. Well, once I figure out how to pay for textbooks, that is. And lose the Christmas pounds, of course.

This week is for reading and anime. I can write in between cracks in homework, but sitting and reading for hours is a luxury I should not enjoy once classes start...

Excellent! When do classes start? Monday?

I think I got good news today ... they're respinning the schedules, and I think I finally got a M-F slot! Yippee!

Yay! I'm glad to hear that!

My classes are mostly on Tuesdays and Thursdays, other than a Monday afternoon seminar, but they do start next week. I'm a little nervous, of course. Hopefully I'll do stupendously this semester. And find an advisor.

Here we are. I was wrong, it is further north, but much closer to SC than TN.

I did that once ... loaded all my classes into Tuesday and Thursday. It was ... hmmm ... interesting ...!

What's up with finding an advisor, girlfriend?

Hope so!

Part of the problem is that they've blocked FR at the Lazy E ... <rolling eyes> but at least I'll have regular weekends, like normal folks!

And how are you?

It's my second semester as a grad student, so I have to find a permanent advisor. Hopefully by a couple weeks into classes I'll have a better idea, my classes are with people I think I might want to have as an advisor. I've just got to find one before, say, March...

I only have three classes and a seminar (13 credits, 9 is full time for a grad student) so it's not as tough as it sounds. And they're all in the department building.

Heat's off in our room. Most of the problem here is in my chest, not sinuses.

Corin, have you tried that vaporizer you plug into the wall like a room deodorizer?

Look at this.

When I was little, colds would often settle in my chest. My parents would rub in Vicks, then put me in warm pajamas and tuck me in.

Rub some Vicks on your upper lip, and on your throat.

My mamma would also take a big spoon, dip up some Vicks, sprinkle lots of sugar on it, and leave it on a saucer for me to lick overnight ... but, I guess you don't want to go there, huh??? <grin!>

Ah... jukebox reality...

------

Driftaway

Day after day I'm more confused
And yet I look for the light through the pourin' rain
You know that's a game that I hate to lose
And I'm feeling the strain
Ain't it a shame?
Gimme the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll, and driftaway

Beginning to think that I'm wasting time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside seems so unkind
And I'm countin' on you
To carry me through

Gimme the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll, and driftaway

And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when I'm feeling blue
The guitars are coming through to soothe me

Thanks for the joy that you've given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
Your rhythm and rhyme and harmony
Help me along
Makin' me strong

Gimme the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll, and driftaway....

Q: How do you make a small fortune with liberal talk radio?

A: Start out with a large fortune.
